Reaction following the verdict of George Zimmerman, who was acquitted on second-degree murder and manslaughter charges on Saturday in last year’s killing of Trayvon Martin, was swift....
But Latino groups have been largely silent on the matter – choosing to remain in the sidelines of an issue that has gripped the nation.
The groups were in a tricky spot, some said. Zimmerman, who is Latino and white, killed an unarmed black teenager – sparking racial tension throughout the country.
If the Latino groups attacked the verdict, experts said, they would be taking a stand against one of their own. If they defended Zimmerman, whose mother is a Peruvian immigrant, they could alienate black groups angry at what they perceived was injustice against Trayvon Martin. ....
The National Council of La Raza waited two days to send out a press release – saying on Monday that it was “disappointed and saddened” that Zimmerman was found not guilty. NCLR president and CEO Janet Murguía called on the Department of Justice to weigh in more “forcefully” on the matter and said they wanted to seek justice for Trayvon Martin.
“We also believe it is critical to see this case as a teachable moment; we must continue to educate our fellow Americans on what racial profiling really is and the toll it takes on all communities of color in this country,” Murguía said. ....
“The judicial system failed not only the African American community, but all minority communities across the country,” said Arturo Carmona, executive director of Presente.org, a Latino advocacy group based in California. “We share the anger and frustration that the African American community has expressed this past weekend. It’s important that communities from all backgrounds are vocal and united about this case.”

Of course I see what’s going on. But, let’s be honest - if it wasn’t for the media and race baiters this incident wouldn’t be front and center. If people would just shut up - maybe this would simmer down - but no, people have to keep talking and talking and emotions are boiling over.

The right of individuals to defend themselves from harm is a basic right. I can understand if 'low information voters' have no interest in the news but never expected to hear a freeper say that had no interest in something so central to our basic rights.

If the State Run Media is ignoring them and they don’t have a raft of “activists” stirring things up, yes, they would seem to be “largely quiet” due to the lack of engineered data flow.
I have not seen the talking heads go out of their way to interview or survey Latinos, except of course for Jeraldo Rivera.
The few hispanics that were interviewed for the jury wanted to lynch him on the spot.

Well, that would be my point wouldn’t it. La Raza ignores a latino’s personal rights when the underlying issue of socialism and hating whitey is at stake.
The State of Florida Prosecutor’s office also COVERED UP that Travon Martin had kiddie porn on his cell phone, as well as pics of him menacingly holding a handgun. But, their IT guy testified to the truth, and was then FIRED for that!!

Talk about a low information poster - I have followed this case since last year and I applaud the decision of the jury. I’m just sick of the aftermath of the verdict. What the he** is your problem?
So if Zim was a “White Hispanic” then why are the street thugs dancing up and down yelling and screaming about “WHITE” man who killed Martin?
Because it dont do no good to criticize an officially-certified victim group. ALL the $h!t has got to fall on White heads.
Republicans should take note. That one statement by LaRaza is proof enough why the fence should be built, the border sealed and every illegal deported immediately.
Nothing, I mean nothing will ever change whether they like us or not. And if they are willing to sacrifice a pawn for the bigger picture, I say smash the pieces and not play.

That’s the smart move, they’ve got nothing to gain jumping into this mess. Especially with the Hernandez thing hitting too, when nobody is wanting to get your race involved in a mess “run silent run deep” is the best advice.
