The U.K. Accidents Investigation Branch said there was extensive heat damage in the upper portion of the rear fuselage of the Ethiopian Airlines plane, which caught fire while parked at Heathrow Airport in London.
However, it is clear that this heat damage is remote from the area in which the aircraft main and APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) batteries are located, and at this stage, there is no evidence of a direct causal relationship, the agency said in a statement, adding that the initial investigation is likely to take several days.
Ethiopian Airlines hasnt grounded its three other 787 Dreamliners, the carrier said in an emailed statement to The Wall Street Journal. The fire was not related to flight safety, the company said.
Boeing on Friday said its team was working in support of U.K. authorities and Ethiopian Airlines to determine the cause of the fire.

Good news it that the batteries didn't cause this fire.
Bad news is they don't know what did.
I read elsewhere that 60 fires a year occur in parked airplanes. Some are caused by cigarettes. Hopefully they can get this figured out quickly.
The passengers were cooking a goat in the center aisle.
Electrical short in the smoke detector in a rear lavatory?
Or brewing tea, as I recall a number of years ago A Saudia L1011 burned on the ground.
Are L 1011’s still in use ?
