I was stationed at Loring AFB during the 60’s and wouldn’t have thought that runway was long enough for that kind of run on a bike. RIP

One morning on the way to work, I happened on an accident. A boy, student at the nearby high school was breathing his last breaths, laying face down in a small stream.
He rode his motorcycle to school every morning and counted coup on the cars he passed. On this morning he did not meet his standard. He told friends he was going back home and start again to better his record.
On his way home he struck a car that pulled out into his path. He flew over the car, across the road and hit a culvert wingwall with his face.

I watched a video of a run he made even faster and was surprised at how quick he got to speed. It was only about 30 seconds from a dead stop to 300+ mph.

My Dad was stationed there in 58-59. Worked on the B-52s. AEMS(?). Was about 3 at the time. Remember living in a rented house off base. It was in a small “town” that consisted of a crossroad bar and a few homes.
Moved from there to K I Sawyer in the UP the summer of 60 and stayed there until 1973.

Throw a plastic bubble over the passenger compartment, and you have a great, all-weather commuter vehicle. Or add another wheel, and you have a more stable trike.
Actually, I read in Car & Driver of a company that is finally doing this. It's an extremely aerodynamic trike. Estimated mileage? 300 mpg.

I remember reading the account of an attempt to set a land-speed record in an automobile on Germnay’s autobahn back in the thirties. The German guy, Carrraciola, who achieved a speed of about 268 mph said he could hardly make out anything off the road at that speed. I can’t imagine what it would be like on a motorcycle.

Warner was trying to reach 300 miles per hour in less than a mile but crashed at around the 4,000 foot line, officials said. Race director Tim Kelly said local authorities were investigating the incident. "Something occurred and he lost control of the vehicle. That's all we know right now," he said.
