You can speculate all you want. No problem. But here’s what’s interesting. I’m simply engaging in a ‘stand your ground’ argument. Last week, I posted a Pauken thread. To be honest, Pauken has little name recognition and I assummed most Freepers would ask “who’s that guy?” or “don’t care.” But instead Freepers say “Pauken is a disaster and a destroyer.” Part of me said, “I’m a newbie I should ignore it,” but unfortunately I’m sort of like a guard dog. so I paused and reflected, but I felt the necsessity to fight back. After day one, I said to myself, man I should throw in the towel, I’m gonna lose and I’m a dumbass compared to these brilliant FReepers. Yet as you can see I came back for more, nothing heroic in looking like a fool for supporting a conservative candidate who has little chance of winning.. So once again I’m standing my ground. You’re probably right, Abbott will be the next governor of Texas and it will be a cakewalk for him. But why should a candidate for governor of Texas get such an easy ride. Look at Perry, he had an easy ride and when he ran for President, he wasn’t ready for prime time and was pounced, and deservedly so. But the good news, you did a better job of attacking this messenger than the others did. I will concede and say you won this battle. Congratulaions. I’m busy at the moment anyway, and I guess we’ll have to call it a truce. I can’t say surrender, because one of my favorite movies as a kid was “The Alamo,” starring John Wayne. Ever since I saw that film, I had a penchant for roorting for the underdog.

Wait, I’m confused. I just conceded that you won this battle. But the comment, “I’m playing a victim” would infer you want me to return to the Alamo and continue fighting? However, you did an effective hit and even got me off my game today, so congratulations.

100 posts... I think 75 of them have been basically “my penis is bigger than yours”.

Where’s the popcorn?

I’m simply engaging in a ‘stand your ground’ argument.

But just what are you 'standing your ground' for? You haven't said boo about why you support this guy Pauken.

Instead, all you've done is not-so-covertly slammed Greg Abbott by calling him a coward (for not debating a guy few Texans have ever heard of), and slyly attempting to link Abbott to the reviled Karl Rove.

You really ought to be ashamed of that last bit of slime dropping. Marcella caught you dead to rights on that one (thanks for the data, Lady M).

It may take a few days to return to the Alamo, I got to re-write battle plans.

You're confused? I don't think so. Ill prepared for your mission? Definitely.

If you were honest about supporting Mr. Pauken for Governor, you wouldn't come in here as a newbie and start laying down attacks on the obvious front runner - a man who most Texas Freepers very much like and admire.

Such behavior is rarely exhibited by mere supporters, but is always exhibited by covert political operatives.

I shall return to the Alamo.

You still haven't said why you (allegedly) support Pauken, but that's to be expected, since you're not a sincere supporter anyway.

I hope you're not drawing a paycheck for posting here, because Pauken sure isn't getting his money's worth.

Nope, never paid for being a political operative. I’m certain a political operative would have been better prepared for the mission than me. Well, I must better prepare myself for a return to the Alamo. Thanks for the advice.

Well, if you can last through this campaign without getting the zot on FR, you'll probably have enough cred to hire yourself out next time.

And quit mentioning the Alamo. You sound more and more like an establishment drone, every time you do it.

In Texas, if you don’t go to the gun range, shoot a shotgun while holding a Bible in your hand at the same time, then you have no chance to get elected in the Lone Star State.

Where did you get that line?

Thanks for the info., but I did love that film. I was 5-years-old when I saw it, and it was the first movie I recall watching as one of my earliest memories. I said to myself at that time, I want to be just like those Texans. I even recall thinking about that film for weeks when I was just 5 years old. But I must admit you scored a few credible hits. So I’ll need to spend more time with the battle plans. I was intruiged by Coach Lombardi’s concept of playing strength vs. strength, but the fool that I was, I forgot to remind myself that I haven’t gotten out of the PeeWee Leagues and I’m just about to play a game against the University of Texas Longhorns. You might find it humorous, but at least you can’t deny the sincerity of my courage and support for Pauken even though I’m a second stringer in the PeeWee football league.

Came up with it myself. Thought about it over the weekend and waiting for the right opportunity to say it.

Do you also post on Mother Jones?

Nope. I came up with the line when I was pondering the differences between a show horse and a work horse. If you return to the original post you will note that I praised that aspect of Texas politics, and even suggested Pauken get some gun range training in a later post.

The Mother Jones magazine is a good question to ask. You’ve noticed that on occassion I used Web links from Leftist groups to attack Abbott. Here’s what happens, I only have Google to research Abbott. Pauken ain’t gonna give me info., since I’m too much of a renegade. Anyway, when I went ahead with a posting, I would type in “Abbott hypocrite” or Abbott Rove” and I would click on a site I can open. In China, half the sites I try to open our blocked by the Great Wall of China censors. But I have no problem opening Leftist websites for some reason. And Thank God, I can open the Free Republic Website, if I can’t read your Website each day, I’d probably think about moving to a different country.

You and I both have been in the Texas Republican Party for many years.

I grew up in Texas. One of my ancestors was born here during the Republic. All of my ancestors were Texans since Reconstruction. But, unlike all my other relatives, I have not spent all my life in Texas.

My wife and I cast our first Presidential ballot in Texas in 1972. But we moved to NM late in 1972, and were there until 1986. It was in the early 1980's in NM that I became politically active. I was an outside salesman then and did business with many of the businessmen in Southern NM and AZ. One of them suggested I run for city council, thought at first that was nonsense. But after sleeping on it a night or 2, I ran and was elected. It was a learning experience.

I later served as GOP County Chairman there. I really enjoyed that. Made lots of good friends and liked all I knew. Edward Lujan was the State Chairman then.

In 1986 we were transferred back to Texas and I was traveling several states. Politics was put on the back burner, but I still observed.

In 1988 we moved to Oklahoma, we dearly love the people in OK. In those years the area I covered was even larger.

In 1995 we moved back to Texas and to Haskell County. For about 10 years I still traveled a lot. But now, I think that is over.

The last 10 years has largely been focused on caring for sick/elderly family.

But that does not mean that I am not an observer. My biggest weakness is I am a news junkie. It is at times an obsession. To the point that it is hard on my wife, although we see politics identically. But my interest in it is a bit more intense than her's. But she has put up with me for 42 years.
