I think it's more simple than that. The biggest factor in the decline of employability for men is automation. I don't know how to fix that problem, but it's really no more sinister than that. Even office jobs are disappearing, as something as basic as the computing power of a single PC has probably eliminated dozens of jobs in accounting, word processing, drafting, graphic design, photography, etc.

Just as technological improvements, globalization and wage arbitrage has 'attacked' the middle class.
