the NTSB, admitting that a summer intern had acted outside the scope of his authority
Oh yeah, just like those two "rogue" IRS employees in Cincinnati.

Humor is destroyed by overanalysis.
It was a classic prank and a hilarious one.
All the navel-gazing needs to stop on both sides.

I read elsewhere that the NTSB intern just
confirmed the names provided by someone at KTVU who called asking for confirmation. The person actually guilty of the hoax is probably sitting at a desk in the KTVU newsroom eating popcorn.
KTVU is by the way a very leftist Fox affiliate.

Having been a pilot for many years and spending time “hanger flying” with many other pilots, I know that for the most part pilots are smart, witty and generally fun to be around.
Most of them would consider this to be very funny.
That does not mean that they don't take this accident seriously. They will analyze it down to the smallest detail and modify any faults in their own procedures that are exposed by this accident.
But they will all the while make graveyard jokes.
The author of this story is silly.

This is the first I’ve heard of this report. If a broadcaster did something like that, I find it in very poor taste.

The damage done in this situation is probably incalculable at this point.I can do the calculation
Media integrity before getting punked .001 and after .001 so with the rounding the damages are approximately....

Am I “racially insensitive” if I still laugh when reading those names?
If that really was a “summer intern” who provided that “information,” somebody better hire him quickly. He thinks pretty quickly on his feet.
By the way, I knew before I had finished reading the first name the first time, “Sum Ting Wong,” that it was a joke.

Austin Hill creator of this article got it wong.
The names originated at KTVU, the station called the NTSB and the person there confirmed the names. The names did not originate from NTSB but from KTVU.

It was probly a conspiracy on many levels, lots of people could have caught/stopped it had they been moved to, but they weren't.
Now everyones panties are in a wad.
That sh!t is funny, right there.

The moral of the story is simple. The media is largely populated by lazy, ignorant people who for some reason think they’re the intellectual superiors of the rest of us. Don’t trust any supposed facts without first verifying on your own. And when they’re providing their opinion, consider that these are the same types who are duped easier than a fourth grader.
