Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM) President David B. Durkee issued the following statement in response to the impending re-entry by Hostess Brands, LLC, into the snack cake market:
This coming week, Hostess Brands, LLC, is expected to re-enter the wholesale snack cake market. Despite the fanfare, the long-term viability of this effort is highly uncertain. Rather than hire professional, experienced bakers who have produced quality snack cakes in the companys bakeries for decades, Hostess management has chosen instead to hire primarily workers with little or no experience in the demanding wholesale snack cake baking industry.
The BCTGM has consistently stated our interest in working cooperatively and productively with the new owners of this company. We have always maintained that the experience, skill and professionalism of our members offer the new owners, who have no experience in the wholesale snack cake business, the best chance for long-term success in consistently putting out a quality product.

I haven’t seen Twinkies on the shelves yet.
I did get a box of something called “Dreamies”
that had the appearence of TWs but they were
in no way to be confused with the real thing.
Great! I need a 400,000 cupcakes for tomorrow.
"i just had one it was nice and moist"
Uh, then it must NOT have been made by a "professional (union) baker.
Twinkies have been stale and rubbery for a LONG time.
I thought it was the trans-fats ban thing. But I could be wrong.
I had heard on the radio they were going to use a better cocoa powder, and they weren't kidding. It must be Dutched cocoa, now.
Get a box. You won't be sorry. Also, you know they are fresh!
Socialism hurts the very people it is supposed to help. I speak to very few union guys, and I know a lot of hardcores, who think that their kids will be in a union. It’s over.
Didn’t the union destroy the company? I don’t think I’ll buy any Hostess products.
We just got a new box of Hostess Cup Cakes and they are now using a much better cocoa-probably Dutched.
You will love them!
That is the reason to support the new Hostess.
We were bummed by the new Sara Lee snack cakes. Then we saw they were made by Bimbo from within Mexico. They were pretty tasteless and tended to be sweeter than expected.
It’s not like GM? Controlled and owned by the union?
“Interesting. They apparently have decided that if it’s good enough for the obama administration it’s good enough for Hostess. So-long Twinkies!”
I’m trying to determine how you made this leap to Obama and the new producers of Twinkie’s. Are you in a union, or an Obama voter?
I’ll be really upset if they’ve taken out all the dangerous chemicals, additives, and colorings because those make stuff taste great.
(no sarc intended)
:-)
Yep that is why I will no longer by any domestic car other then Ford, Honda or Toyota.... Yes I said Honda and Toyota. Built by hard working Non-union Americans.
They could well be right.
If the Democrats win the ideological war every worker will be in a union just like the workers in the former USSR.
Of course those unions were there to control the workers at the behest of the government not to protect the rights of the worker.
I worked in a union meat packing plant years ago and was paid about $12 an hour back in 1982. Company came and said to take a $2 hour pay cut or they would shut the doors.
Union voted no, company shut the doors and broke the contract. They re-opened a year or two later at $5 to $6 an hour less.
Yeah, that’s me - live to irk others.
I thought Hostess products were awful when I was in grade school - still think that decades later.
Apparently they do have a following though.
and the RATS losing seats has NOTHING to do with it... right???
yeah, right...
i've got some swamp land you might be interested in too!!!
Im thinking if they do it themselves they can control quality.
If they were consistently stale, then quality control was probably excellent. Those deciding on the recipe were just making it cheaper and worse to maximize short term profits. That's not the union workers' fault. But there are more than enough other things to blame them for.
LOL. Commie libs hate to be ignored.
