Ouch. And true.
“The same stupid, senseless bundles of raw emotion who singlehandedly gave us two terms of Obama”
Not having the stats in front of me, I would have to say that it were “Republican” men who did not come out to vote by the millions.
I have sisters, no brothers, and have spent the vast, vast majority of my life defending women against sexism and the ‘double standard’ (e.g. guys can do it, but girls/women aren't allowed to). That said, I am sorry, but the above comment rings true. It doesn't matter if its genesis is from virtuous intentions and the desire to be empathic, understanding, and selfless. It is destructive in its inability to apply reason and truth.
George Zimmerman could have easily given a different story. He could have said he had a gun but had absolutely no intention of ever touching it in the confrontation with Martin. That it was only after Martin found the gun on Zimmerman, while beating him, and told Zimmerman that he was going to kill him, that George decided he had to fight for control of the gun - or die. That in the struggle the gun came free of Martin's grip and went off. That he never intended to kill Martin, and that it was an accident that occurred in the context of this violent struggle.
In short, he could have created a narrative that would have made it much harder to convict him. But he chose to tell the truth as he recalled it. For this, he runs the risk of being punished by a society that accepts racism, as long as its from those from whom racism is politically correct.
This is not the way for all of us to live together in mutual respect. This is not the way to end racism. This is perpetuation of injustice.
