Boehner: 'Vast majority' of House GOP wants to act on immigration; Pelosi points to support from 'Bible folks'
After months of being told to hurry up on immigration, it's time to wait.
House Republicans said they plan to act, but not in haste, after huddling in a closed-door meeting to discuss how to proceed on an immigration bill.
While the chamber intends to proceed on immigration, Speaker John Boehner reiterated on Thursday that the House would not take up the Senate immigration bill that passed last month with bipartisan support. Several House Republicans offered their perspectives on the issue during their meeting, Boehner said, concluding that a vast majority of the conference wants to see a bill passed that addresses border enforcement and the approximately 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally.

If you don’t think there’s SOME ‘finished’ bill sitting in any number of desk drawers just WAITING for the time to see the light of day....I have some beachfront property in Arizona for ya.
Finished huh?
You mean like that ‘finished’ gun bill that died in the Senate?
Just like the blacks will come out and kill us all if Zimmerman is acquitted, at Obama's command to win the 2014 election, pulease...
I believe that some GOP congressmen are being sneaky with their immigration bills. They act as if we are incapable of appreciating their glorious works, but they will reveal them to us when they are good and ready. Despicable.
I do not pretend to know what is going to happen.
#1 :None of above is my text
#2 : GOP House leadership may really want SOMETHING called immigration reform passed that hits Obama’s desk, but like us they don't know what that will be. Only the votes will tell them that.
One of two things is going on. The first one would be a betrayal, it's what we fear, the passing of a bill that would be the Trojan Horse to go to conference with the Senate bill.
The second: He IS killing the bill, while defusing the media/democrat demagoguery by making it look like he's giving it a chance. The reason I'm thinking this is his likely method: He won't allow ANY vote on something the majority of the House GOP wants to bring up, otherwise known as the Hastert rule. I'm not trusting enough to believe we've won, I just think it's leaning our way as long as we keep the pressure on. I hope this is true, see some evidence of it being true, just don't trust it yet.....
I've posted that before, and still believe it. The pressure is important, more important than the faction of the GOP that wants amnesty, the group that will betray us if we give up. Those on the threads who have given up aren't calling, they're just hoping to get angry at some self fulfilling prophecy.
Bottom line: It's not time to give up yet. Perdogg has an excellent point abut the time line, read what he is saying. My point is if he wants to kill it, he's going to kill it in the most advantageous way possible, make it look like they're doing something, while watching it die. It's how he'll keep the dogs of the media lying down.
Once again, don't give up. Call, fax, email. It's our only way to win.
The pressure is important, more important than the faction of the GOP that wants amnesty, the group that will betray us if we give up.
I agree. However, although I believe there is "faction of the GOP that wants amnesty," as you wrote, there are some House members in the GOP (and perhaps even among the Dems) who seem confused, inconsistent, etc. on this issue. Those people may be our best hope of stopping this, or at least keeping a house immigration bill as different from the senate bill as possible. I would urge everyone whose representative is in the above category to keep making regular contact.
How can these people betray their own constituents? I think we have to look at this from a congressman's point of view. They work with their congressional colleagues day in, day out, and not just for a single 2 year term. Their in-person contacts with us, the people, are limited by security concerns, distance, schedules, etc. Among their House colleagues are some very pro-amnesty individuals, who can be friendly, charming, etc.
I tweeted to my congressman, who has consistently opposed Obama and his agenda in the past, but who I believe may be on the fence, (It's hard to know), "Who sups with the Devil needs a long spoon."
John Boehner may also be on the fence, and for that reason it's important to keep reminding him what we demand.
Let's assume that no bill comes from the House through 2014 (I don't know if that is true but I hope so). What happens to the senate bill?
I saw house Republican Peter King on FNS today and Wallace asked him why he doesn't even support a Borders bill.
He replied ‘Because President Obama has made it clear that he will not enforce any bill provisions that he doesn't agree with. So its pointless’, and he gave obvious examples.
I thought he made a good case for himself.
That fool NR Rich Lowery went on NBC MTP to debate immigration against 4 liberals where he got 1/5 of time from David Gregory.
Boehner: ‘Vast majority’ of Republicans want BoneHead thrown out!
I saw house Republican Peter Steve King on FNS today and Wallace asked him why he doesn't even support a Borders bill
He would have made an even better case if he had read your and my posts on FR. To the Dem's statement
ISRAEL: On the issue of enforcement, let's get away from the sound bites and understand fact. Under this president, deportations are at an all-time high. Border crossings are at an all-time low.
King should hire you and me to prep him for the debate. He shuld have rebutted with:
I saw that too, I thought of mentioning that here then I forgot. He got away with it,.
On NBC MTP Lowery was outnumbered and one of the libs replies to him claiming CBO numbers showing how much deficit reduction the Senate bill would cause, and when Lowery tried to respond Gregory gave the floor to another of the four libs on the panel with a completely different question.
I believe the cooked deficit reduction comes mainly from payroll/entitlement taxes (on them and employer assuming it doesnt increase employment too) by COMPLETELY ignoring that under current law that they would be entitled to even more $$$$ back later as a result.
In other words it makes believe they will pay those taxes without getting the benefits.
An Obama operative/Holder defender named Julian Epstein used to come on Greta van Susterin, and every time he repeated the factually false claim that Fast and Furious was a GWB program (not that GWB can't do very wrong things but in this case he didn't). The same conservative guy would appear and let him get away with it. Finally, about the 4th time I saw this happen (there may have been others I did not see) the conservative guy tried to make the point, but kind of awkwardly. Probably writes good books but doesn't have the fire for TV (or maybe he and the leftist guy are personal friends, who knows).

How did Reagan do it? On TV, he came out consistently on top. Maybe he would have had enough sense to avoid such an ambush.
Its one thing to go on NBC/ABC/CBS in a one to one showdown with a Dem, but these fools like Rich Lowrey are so starving to get on air they agree to join a roundtable discussion with 4 Dems (one was Schmidt see below) and Gregory and about 5 minutes per topic for them all, 1 minute per topic each. Its counterproductive.
There are ‘Republicans’ like Nicole Wallace (GWB/McCain 2008) and Steve Schmidt (McCain 2008) just go on those shows to claim they are Republicans to agree with Dems on every-single issue Gays, illegals, etc, Wallace praises GWB for being so progressive too. Nothing they say indicates that they are not just another progressive Dem.
So when one of them is the other 'conservative' its time to cancel your appearance'
” That fool NR Rich Lowery went on NBC MTP to debate immigration against 4 liberals where he got 1/5 of time from David Gregory. “
NR is a mere skeleton of itself. Bird cage liner,IMHO.
Not true John.
Note my air-quotes around ‘finished’...geez.
My point being that these 1200+ page bills just don’t SPRING to ‘life’ overnight. They have been waiting for the right time to be pulled together and pushed through; damn the Citizens and their wishes.
Concur. I’m all for a Sunshine Law for D.C. Enough of the back-room deals. If your ideas cannot be made public on the floor for all to see, you’re up to no good.
Good Post!!!

Why I never watch them.
