The National Transportation Safety Board has released a statement revealing the source of Friday afternoon's embarassing KTVU hoax -a summer intern for the agency who "acted outside the scope if his authority" and "erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew" on the Asiana plane that crashed in San Francisco.
The Bay Area TV station read the racist crew names on air: Captain Sum Ting Wong, We Tu Low, Ho Lee Fuk, and Bang Ding Ow.

This is the time of year when much of the country is run by interns.
It’s in the excerpt. Read the flight crew names. Out loud. They are NOT the real named of the pilots. E.g., Sum Ting Wong = Some Thing Wrong. These names were actually read on air by a newscaster in San Francisco. The play on Asian names is taken by some as “racist.” Most of us just think it’s pretty funny.
Ah, ok :)
Yeah, the shame is overbearing with these types :/
Lots of the ‘NON-checking’ of those ‘journalists’ is brought out right here on FR :D
Wang Wei. Close enough.
Well, OK, actually too close...
...funny though.
The sad part is that the interns are an improvement...
It’s way funnier in real life.

(Fired intern: It was worth it!)
The only thing that could make this a greater blooper would be if Dan Rather was the announcer.
