EXCLUSIVE: RAND PAUL -- I'M 'THINKING ABOUT' RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT
Big Government ^ | 7/11/2013

Posted on 07/11/2013 4:12:12 PM PDT by markomalley

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview on Thursday that he is contemplating a run for president in 2016 and that he will likely make an announcement on a decision shortly after the 2014 midterm congressional elections.

“We’ve been thinking about it,” Paul said in a phone interview. “And we will continue to think about it probably until after the 2014 elections. I haven’t made a decision, it’s a big decision you know with regard to family and the extensive travel that’s involved with it. And then also just seeing where the country is going in the next year or two.”

According to a new Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey, Paul leads the pack of potential 2016 GOP candidates in both Iowa and New Hampshire. Paul’s 18 percent in the poll leads New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s 16 percent, 15 percent for former Vice Presidential candidate and House Budget Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), 14 percent for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, 11 percent for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), 10 percent for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), 6 percent for former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, 2 percent for Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and 1 percent for New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez.

Rand will run, and although I have a few problems with him, he would likely be a very good candidate.

Yeah, but would he be a very good president? Candidates are a dime a dozen, good leaders are a rarity.

I'm in for Paul. Maybe not my first choice, but the most serious candidate for actually shrinking the size of government.

And I'm pretty sure he'd pull the plug on the NSA overreach.

Yes, I am talking about you, NSA. Kiss my ass.

Rand needs a makeover on that hair. He ought to shave off that perm, let his normal hair grow back and then just get a normal haircut. Perms are kind of prissy and hard to take seriously, just sayin’.

Rand’s curly hair makes him look like a dentist which I think he is.

Interesting situation of Rand Paul and his longtime aide the “Southern Avenger” Jack Hunter who among other things has spoken positive of John Wilkes Booth. I don’t have a problem with this but this and similar situations with Rand is something he may have to be careful about.

I don’t think 2016 would be the year for Paul but maybe down the road.

I’ll pass on Rand since he is too much like his pops and hired The Southern Avenger. Not willing to cross the line that most Libertarian Paulers have where they support 9-11 conspiracies, Jew-bashing and socially progressive polices and also isolationist policies. I’ll stick with conservative principals. Rand is stuck trying to play both sides and that can create a bad situation. He won’t be able to appease everyone and that’s a big mess.

Yes, Paul needs to back off the amnesty talk real quick if he wants any conservative support.

He’s a demagogue, and the Republican version of David Duke.

He needs to court the young vote with the privacy and rights issues (NSA, etc.) then get the moderates with the “quit pushing the social issues” (you can be gay or an atheist -we don't care) just reduce government and taxes (dismantle IRS use Flat or Fair tax) and make the economy sore. Give the poor some real prosperity.

Why doesn't somebody ever trot out all the people in the legal immigration waiting line and say look at all these minorities, elderly, etc. from other places than Mexico that cant get in because the Mexicans are cutting the line?
If you don't care about these people too you must be racist.
I mean if we want more immigrants lets do it the right way and increase the amount we let in and be fair.

I honestly don’t get where all this nonsense about Rand Paul comes from.

He voted against the amnesty bill and has been saying for years that he is against amnesty and against the path to citizenship. That alone makes him more conservative than the last 3 republican presidents, who were all pro amnesty and I assume everyone here voted for.

Then when I look at the posting history of the folks here bashing Paul I see that they are all Cruz supporters. Cruz is a self described libertarian and has been campaigning for Rand Paul everywhere he goes. His supporters would do well to listen to his CPAC speech this year and his speech at the faith an freedom coalition conference a few weeks ago. He talks more about Rand Paul than about himself.

The tea party will not be divided in the next election like it was in the last one. Everybody knows that if that happens again, the establishment candidate will win (again).

Rand Paul recently endorsed Mitch McConnell for re-election in 2014, and said he would not back a Tea Party primary challenge to McConnell. Very disappointing that he would not be more help in getting one of the worst RINO’s out of the Senate. It makes me not trust him, he is already making compromise deals with the Republican establishment.
