The judge in George Zimmermans murder trial had a contentious exchange with one of Zimmermans defense attorneys Wednesday when he repeatedly objected to her asking his client whether he planned to testify in his own defense.
Judge Debra Nelson reminded Zimmerman that he was not required to testify, but when she asked whether he would like to, defense attorney Don West cut in, I object your honor. Nelson overruled his objection before asking again.
I object to that question West repeated.
Overruled! The court is entitled to inquire of Mr. Zimmermans determination as to whether or not he wants to testify, Nelson said.

I don't think so. Other sources have indicated that the jury saw the whole thing.
If the jury was out of the room, I don't have much of an objection. It makes the Judge looks like an idiot, but that ship has sailed a loooooong time ago on this trial.
But if the jury saw it, it is a huge problem.
I remember when the judge asked Casey Anthony if she was going to testify or not, he asked her, she said NO and that was it..with this judge she had to ask over and over and over again..he said NO end of story
Just like I told her to do.
Why not? Any lawyer would object to a judge trying to get their client to commit on this issue with more witnesses left to call whether it was in front of the jury or not.
Your Honor, with all due respect, if you're going to try my case for me, I wish you wouldn't lose it.
I believe the jury was NOT in the room during all of this..they had already left
The lawyer should have used Brendan Sullivan's famous line from the Ollie North Congressional Hearings... "What am I, a potted plant?"
It is beyond outrageous. This judge should be ripped from the court room and taken outside to be tarred and feathered.
The rule of law is dead in this once great Republic.
The only worse one I've seen was the judge in the Newman movie "The Verdict".
She’s a man hater, too.
Well, I tend to get everything wrong, lol. At least GZ’s lawyers finally got him to stop saying “Yes, sir!” to her questions. He did it at least twice which caused my beer can to shoot across the room. Someone has pointed out that she bears a startling resemblance to John Goodman.
Oh, the ex-bag man! Great movie and he made a great villain.
I’m just glad she’s not on the jury. What astounds though me is not that a judge would be so openly biased, but that she would be so in front of cameras in a highly watched case. She’s not even trying to disguise it one wit.
Or her wife.
Wish I’d been paying more attention. She asked Z after she returned from her feed bucket and Z told her no, “he didn’t wish to testify.” Not sure if the jury had been excused or not prior to her inquiry.
The jury was NOT in the room!
I think this judge is trying to create conditions to declare a mistrial so that the prosecution can have another shot at this. If it goes to the jury and they acquit, it is over for the prosecution.
If she can create her own mistrial, then everyone goes back to square one, and the state has another shot at Zimmerman. They will work on coaching up their witnesses better.
That’s what I thought. Jury out, folks.
