As flames cover the sky in front of him, Adrien Aubert is clearly incredulous. His amateur video of the Lac-Mégantic explosion shows a town divided by a towering wall of fire.
Aubert, who estimates that he is about 200 metres from downtown, narrates the disaster in French, explaining how the various tankers are exploding one by one while peppering in some (understandable, given the circumstances) obscenities in both French and English.

Raw amateur video from the night of the explosion. Note, there is some (understandable) adult language in both French and English. here

The train’s engineer (staying in town after parking his train at the top of a hill ~6 mi away) rounded up a railcar moving vehicle and pulled 9 to 13 cars off of the back of the train before they could become involved.
Some have posted that the Keystone Pipeline would not have prevented this disaster. While that MAY be true, the focus needs to be on preventing the NEXT disaster. This was a relatively small train, no? Consider the scale of disaster that can happen on the main flow line down through the heartland to the Gulf Coast.
Also consider the explosion [npi] in tanker car traffic that places every bit of rolling stock in service. A factor in the Lac-Mégantic was the older DOT-111 cars that have a history of puncturing during accidents (see Blame game over Lac-Megantic blast as train company and fire crews point finger at each other). Would the pipeline relieve some of that pressure? You betcha.
It is good that he did that but I don’t think it will buy him redemption. For his sake I hope he did everything by the book. I would not want to have this disaster on my conscience. Prayers for all involved.
The local FD shut off the locomotive and put the fire out. One or two railroad employees (ID's unpublished to date) were apparently at the parked train after/during the fire.
At some point (~1 hr) after that fire was put out and all left, the train started to roll down the grade.
72 to 73 tank cars is not that small. It's likely a mile long.
oh ya!
Haven’t you seen this video on all of the nightly news programs of ABC, CBS, etc
Incredible video.
This is a very strange event. One where there seems to be more than being told.
First I ever heard this.

Eco-terrorists?
Small in terms of what Buffett sends down his line - relatively small, that is.
No, and I don't like Cod Liver Oil either. :)
The media nearly go through the motions of regurgitating press releases without doing any investigation on their own. Plus they have no curiosity and can't put together a logical story line to save their lame butts.
Whoa, unfortunate choice of how they closed out that video.
Yet no problem with showing that plane crash out in CA.
It’s eerie.
Wasn’t it the firefighters who unintentionally caused this by turning off the engine which was keeping the air pressure to the braking system?
The difference is that Cod Liver Oil is real....
MSM showing news video, that would contradict their politics, is a fantasy...
