“They tell us that black criminals aren’t actually criminals; the true culprit is the white ‘unjust justice system’ that ‘profiles’ blacks and creates this racist illusion,” Horowitz and Perazzo write, before citing the statistics that show that the problem is not in the justice system but in the criminals who enter it.

Here's my gut-level response: I used to hire people to come into my home to help with cleaning, childcare, pet-sitting, ironing, whatever. Years ago, I found lovely black women to help me and I had very good relations with them. Now, however, I don't think black people need apply.

Is that fair? Am I prejudiced? Or perhaps self-protective? I'm seriously asking myself these questions. And also wondering about the work force in general. Which large or small workplaces will take the chance? And who's fault is it that people think this way?

It's maddening, and of course, very sad.

The person you hire may be an upstanding kind lady,
but who does she talk to and what does she say about your house and/or property?

What is the likelihood that she’s talking to someone that has no qualms about criminal behavior?

I assert, and challenge anyone to deny, that the people she’s talking to will have a higher propensity for criminal behavior than people of other demographics.

Based on direct experience, there are plenty of black people you can trust and many whites you cannot. I hope (and suspect that) you actually judge people on substantive criteria rather than skin tone.
