Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who has hinted he could mount a 2016 presidential bid, is already taking shots at his potential competition in the Republican primary.
The freshman senator was asked Monday night during an appearance on Fox News about Texas Gov. Rick Perry's (R) announcement he would not seek reelection a move that has prompted speculation that Perry could again run for the White House.
If Gov. Perry decides to run for president, I think there would be three good reasons why he could be president: Texas is a big successful state, hes a long term governor and I cant remember the other one, Paul quipped.
The joke was a reference to Perry's disastrous performance in a November 2011 GOP presidential debate, in which he was unable to remember the third federal agency he wanted to eliminate.
"Commerce, Education and the what's the third one there? Let's see," Perry said at the time.
Perry later acknowledged the gaffe telling CBS News that he "stepped in it" but his campaign was never able to recover. He later endorsed Newt Gingrich for the Republican nomination ahead of the South Carolina primary.
Isn’t Rand Paul on the amnesty bandwagon?
He's not off to a good start if he's running against someone else who isn't!! If this is how he plans to run his campaign, he's in trouble.
FYI, Rand, Howdy Doody isn't running, either. Do you plan to take jabs at him . .. . . . . or it??
Yes, he is.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform....
Cheap shot.
Did you even read the article? It clearly states he isn’t for amnesty or citizenship.
This maybe Rand’s going back to some carry over from Ron Paul / Rick Perry.
Not cool, Rand.
I Rand feeling like Perry is a threat to him?
Fine. This is war.
This smells like it came from a speech writer, not something off the cuff.
Cheap shot.
++++++++++
It was just a joke. I like Perry. I might support him in 2016. But I laughed when I heard it. I bet Perry did too.
This joke’s been told so many times it began to sound stupid long before Paul thought he’d sound clever.
Perry has flaws but the overriding thing in his favor is his understanding of the 10th and state’s rights. Nobody is stronger on that issue and it looms larger every day.
Rand Paul better watch what he says because the same thing, now, can very easily happen to him. But since he said it - he sowed a wrong seed, now he will reap from it, more than he sowed and later than he sowed.
Little early to be poking the good-haired grizzly.
First sentence of the article:
WASHINGTON Sen. Rand Paul is calling for conservatives to embrace the cause of immigration reform, outlining a proposal that would grant some form of legal status to the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants after the federal government has certified that the border is secure.
This is AMNESTY. Wake up. Paul's as much of a flake as his old man.
Not funny.
It is funny, and I prefer Perry to Paul. Both Pauls.
Old Rick might slap the curls off that nappy little head.
agree , what we do not need is another pro homosexual , pro drug , pro anything goes candidate or President.
