I was born in Anniston, Alabama, in the 50s and had to fight for my equality most of my life. You see, there were many who thought I should be treated like a second class citizen, drink from a different water fountain, sit in the back of the bus, be counted as three-quarters of a person, go to a different school, eat and sit in the black section of restaurants, use a different bathroom; you know, be separate but equal.

This is a man who would be welcomed in the Tea Party today - and a CORE Freedom House in the 60's... I'm impressed.
Because they saw through the Southerner's game. The knew that the sole purpose of counting slaves for census purposes was to give the white Southerners a disproportionately high representation in Congress. After all, slaves in the South were property, not people. They had no rights, no legal standing, no need for representation and about as much of a chance of ever voting as a house or a wagon had. You don't count a sofa for the purpose of allocating congressmen, why should you count any other property?
Now, please tell us why you think the white Southerners wanted the slaves to count for the census?

Here we go again with the North versus South debate. First off, none of us was alive back then. I can’t read living peoples minds, so I doubt we can read everyones minds from back then. And, as someone living in a state that wasn’t even around back then, neither side was blameless. Our enemies are not fellow Conservatives. Our enemies are Democrats. The war is long over.
