Like so many people across the country, I have followed the murder trial of George Zimmerman very closely. As we enter what is probably the last week of the trial, I am sure that everyone is anxious about the outcome. For the past sixteen months, I have proudly supported the courageous parents of Trayvon Martin as they have fought for justice for their son. I have greatly admired the grace and humility that they have exuded throughout this entire tragic ordeal. For them, the day of judgement in the courtroom will be a very difficult day and I certainly will say a prayer for them when that day comes.
Even with this important day coming soon, I remind myself that we have already accomplished a tremendous amount in the memory of Trayvon. All we ever asked for was for equal justice for the young man who was killed that drizzling night in Sanford, Florida. If George Zimmerman had rights, so did Trayvon Martin. And that is why Mr. Zimmerman was properly arrested and charged with murder in the second degree. He will soon be judged by a jury of his peers, and that is the best we can do. Whatever decision they make, is a decision that we must live with, whether we like it or not. Whether George Zimmerman is found innocent or guilty by the jury, I am firm believer that all of us live by karmic law, and he will ultimately be punished for the death of Trayvon, no matter what. However, if he walks free out of that courtroom, I understand that some people will be very sad, but we must remember the mission we are on. As I have heard Trayvon's parents say time and time again, they are not only fighting for justice for their son, they are fighting for all of us, especially those parents who have to live through the misery of burying their child and the sadness that comes after.
Their inspiring leadership has already led to action. In 2012, for the first time in 8 years, not ONE state in our nation passed a new "Stand Your Ground" law. The power of the NRA and their gun-toting cronies in business were stopped in their tracks by the Justice For Trayvon Martin movement. That is an incredible accomplishment. That is the mission we must continue after this trial is over. Led by the heroism of Trayvon's parents, we will support their efforts to not only block new laws from being enacted, but also repeal the laws in the twenty five states who already passed "Stand Your Ground" type legislation. And we will certainly support their healing process, as they have become great protectors of our nation's compassion. It is the future that needs to be protected and everyone who stood up for Trayvon plays a part in that protection. If we failed to protect Trayvon on February 26, 2012, we will pledge to never make that mistake again.
Never we will stop fighting for justice for Trayvon, guilty verdict or acquittal, as our work will never be done!
In the immortal words of Sheridan Whiteside, “I may vomit.”
That plus he is still living on the ‘plantation’ and can only parrot what he has been told. Mental chains can be very heavy...
Really? Heroes? I'm just dumbfounded by this guy's ignorance of the word hero. How does he put his socks on in the morning without consulting a liberal brain-dead sociologist from an Ivy League university?
Just for clarification of the word hero: The 19 fire-fighters who recently died in an inferno while trying to protect life and property. This is one of those people (like most liberals) who need to get their butt kicked into reality.
Where’s the barf alert?
“Riots are Coming!!!”
I’d say “Bring IT!”; but they will only come to the inner cities and heavily populated black communities. They will ultimately, as always, only hurt themselves.
This dumb F does not seem to understand that a jury is charged with it’s
decision based on evidence, not emotion. And the evidence does not support a conviction. In fact, this trial is a farce.
That would make you an accessory to attempted murder, Mr Simmons!
Or should society as a whole take up head slamming negros on the sidewalk as their customary greeting?
Evidence proves he is NG.
But there is no way that the six women will vote that way.
They are all mothers you know.... according to MSM.
Wouldn’t have hurt to put a “hurl” in the title (for those who couldn’t figure that out from the first sentence) — just sayin’ —
I don’t like to say this because I deal with young kids all the time and all I can say is a kid like Travyon was heading to an early grave. Whether it be at the hands of a violent offender, a friend behind the wheel, an overdose or a drug deal, or getting shanked in the joint, the kid had a target on his back. He had a criminal record.. not just painting a tag on a dumpster or boosting hubcaps but actual violent crime and drug usage. He came from a broken home and at least one parent that didn’t know where he was while he laid on a slab in a morgue for a few days and a system that bent over backwards to practically sanction his self destruction under the guise of political correctness and “cultural differences”. It’s okay he takes pictures with guns (he’s not legally allowed to own), illegal drugs and bragged of making a concoction using skittles, watermelon tea and codeine (which is illegal), and use racial slurs, just don’t call us racists.
Each and every time someone intervened, his behavior was excused away. Now he’s dead because he picked on the wrong guy and we’re supposed to feel guilty. Sorry. I feel bad for his family because they failed and i just hope and pray I don’t fail as badly as they did.
Just thinking that if this happened at the hands of a young black man, his death would not have even warranted a mention in a newspaper, just a check-box on a file in a computer somewhere. That is where we should feel bad and that is where we fail our children. Take God out of everyday life and you have a godless life, everyday.
where the thug went, you can smell burning Skittles
This is not a stand your ground case. It is a self-defense case.
Good lord.
What I think is funniest about these birds is that they demonize the NRA, when that organization is made up of US citizens with every bit as much right to express their views as these cowardly fools.
But, as with most liberals, their interpretation of “respect differing opinions” means that you must respect theirs is you disagree with them. If they disagree with you, no such respect is needed.
But whither the “stand your ground” law? Without these, no one would be able to defend themselves in a confrontation. You as the defender would be legally required to retreat in fear lest you commit a felony. The result? Anyone could intimidate anyone else, anyone could just walk up and start pummeling anyone else, without fear of someone defending their person. We would become a nation of victims by default.
But let’s try a little theater of the mind here. If someone walked up to this “Russell Simmons” character and just started kicking his ass, does he REALLY think that that person will uphold on his beating to give him a chance to call the cops to come defend him? The only alternative is that he wants to live his life in fear, as a victim. Where would this country be is those in England had decided that they’d just take their lumps and live under the thumb of King George?
If you were Russell Simmons’ wife or child, would you feel better or worse that your father stood by texting the cops for help while you got beaten into a bloody pulp, instead of jumping in and dispatching your attacker into a greasy spot on the sidewalk? using his logic, all he could do is watch, and run the other way, because the attacker is never to be confronted. His kids could bring his balls into school as a show-and-tell piece, along with his backbone, because Simmons has no need for either. Hell of a lesson to teach children. “Don’t ever stand up for yourself, just accept your beating, citizen.”
People like this are exactly one beating away from being a Republican.
BS that Simmons and the black community are fighting for the parents who have had to bury their children. If that were actually the case, then Simmons and the black community would make a stink out of the exponentially more frequent cases of black youth killing other black youth. Yet we see no such reaction.
Hell, if Simmons and the black community were truly fighting for the parents who have to bury their children, then we would see some calls from Simmons and black leaders for black youth to end the far more common outcome of white kids getting killed by black people. Yet we never see that.
No, Russell, we know what your article and other black "leaders" reaction is really about. It's about keeping alive the false narrative that America and white people are racist and foaming at the mouth to screw black people. Less and less people are buying this ridiculous (and itself racist) worldview.
Gene is the brains and the bass player. Paul Stanley does vocals.
I said that in post 44.
