N. Korea: Kim Jong-eun issues the order to reduce NK troops by 300K

First Secretary Kim Jong-eun issued the order to significantly reduce the troop strength of N. Korean military force, according to ANN's own investigation. Currently, N. Korea has 1.19 million troops of army, navy, and air force. This order calls for the reduction by 300,000 troops, the one fourth of total force.

By Koji Ohno

Drastic reduction of troops could mean that N. Korea completed the deployment of its nuclear weapons, and S. Korean authorities are wary (of such a possibility.) According to sources on N. Korean military, N. Korea's Supreme Command of People's Armed Forces gave the order to General Staffs at Defense Ministry on Jun. 10. 300,000 troops, 50,000 officers and 250,000 soldiers, will be demobilized and transferred to economic sector. It is to be completed by the end of August.

The report seems to suggest that NK has operational nukes, and NK regime is confident that it is sufficient enough to make up for the 25% reduction of conventional force.

Confirmation on this news may take a while, but it would be hard to miss if it happens. Lots of bodies and hardware would be moving and rearranged.

They can't feed'em for a long time. Military service degenerated into either farm labor or banditry. Grow your own food or rob civilians for food.

What is the age spread of the military? does it include 60 year old privates and corporals?

Can the goal be achieved by attrition, retiring all the old guys?

His economy must be booming, so surely there are lotsa jobs so these rif’d NK miliitary guys (who know how to use guns) can feed themselves and their families ....?

Or did someone in the US arrange a deal to pay off men to leave the NK military (this arrangement has been used before in Africa)

If they keep their guns by hook or crook, there could be a wave of hooliganism up there. If certain units resent being demobilized, things could really get interesting.

They invariably will turn into roving bands of marauders. Much like armies let go from Central American wars turned into M-13 Mara Salvatrucha gang members, infected Latin America and came up to the USA. Skilled, deadly, hungry, nasty, bad neighbors. Let the raping and pillaging begin, I guess (in the DPRK).

If the unification of Koreas happens, S. Korean military and intel have to absorb (or manage) good portion of these soldiers, missile engineers, nuclear scientists, chemical weapon's experts, cyber-operatives, and security agents.
Otherwise, we have a big nasty organized crime syndicate of E. Asia, which makes Triads, Yankuza, and Russia Mafiya blush. You know NK has already turned into one huge crime-syndicate. If they go free agent, they can go in any direction. They may flood S. Korea or maybe cross Yalu-Tumen River en masse.

Yep. But who is really thinking that far ahead accept TLR (and maybe AiT and a few others). It is scary and pathetic at the same time.
