I think something has happened behind the scenes -such as a sidebar that has tied MOM’s hands. He was carefully constructing his sentences when questioning Lee after a lengthy sidebar

Absolutely, the judge has almost certainly restricted any movement to show that this is a carefully constructed fraud and railroading of Zimmerman for political (and other, such a potential public safety) reasons. This was clear in MOM’s questioning of the police (interviewers and former police chief)—he was avoiding this area almost certainly to avoid any sanctions from this corrupt judge.
