Rick Perry, the longest-serving governor in Texas history, said Monday he won't seek re-election in 2014.
The staunch Christian and fiscal conservative said he will instead spend the remaining 18 months of his term guiding Texas through innovation and job creation. However, Perry did not rule out a second Republican presidential run.

Texas *ping*
Great! Time for new blood!
Time for Greg Abbot!!
Here is an earlier thread. I should have pinged my TX list, but never found a source link.
I just hope he retires in Texas and doesn’t get some idea that he wants to run for President again......I would not mind but he loves those illegal aliens too much and that is the last thing we need....another compassionate conservative.
Another La Raza Rick?
Oh, sorry, Arrow! I looked on the forum page and didn’t see one so I thought I’d put one up!
I’m glad Gov Perry made this decision now. He wouldn’t be Governor if Kinky Friedman hadn’t siphoned off 12% of Texas voters from the dems. Thank you Kinky!
p.s. saw Kinky in the grocery store Friday. We shook hands and exchanged the usual pleasantries. He lays his cigar in one of the potted plants just outside the door and picks it back up on his way out. The man is a walking caricature and my favorite Jewish cowboy.
Indeed it is! :)
He is a character, and I’m soooo glad he didn’t get elected governor. LOL!
Pretty good cigars!!
No, he's just got this list of about 280 "special friends" who each donate huge bucks to his campaign funds, and he listens to them almost exclusively.
And they all want dirt-cheap wages and lots of Mexicans and Guatetecs flooding across the border so they can hire cheap with no bennies, no insurance, -- hell, no Social Security, cash only, totally off-the-books. Yeah, a free-market economy is a wonderful thing, if you can hire 100% illegals who can never say "no" or "I'd like a raise".
No problem. I never found the source on the other thread. I heard his announcement on the radio coming back from the store and headed for FR.
Fantastic. Here’s hoping we don’t put a bigger RINO in there to replace him.
Perry has made his move and I hope he retires to something and stays clear away from politics.
Over 90 percent of the Republicans we elect are not real conservatives and regardless of what his promoters say, Rick Perry does not qualify as one of those few authentic ones.
Perry certainly isn’t conservative perfect but better than some we’ve had (Ma Richards)... but his stance on in-state tuition for illegals lost it for me!! I don’t know Abbott’s stand on that yet, but if he supports it I can’t support him either.... in general he is a law and order kind of guy. Will be interesting to see his position. Hope my state senator decides her time is right to run for governor now that she had her 11 hours of fame with her filibuster shenanigans. Let Wendy (kill those kids) Davis give up her Senate seat and get trounced at the polls by Abbott -—
