That’s because Kimmel and Letterman are morons, while Leno is truly a funny person, and while he doesn’t always show it, it’s often enough to be better than those to flacks.

The new guy’s ratings will inevitably crash. He isn’t funny, unless you’re about 14.

Jimmy Kimmel was only good when he was Ben Stein’s sidekick on “Win Ben Stein’s Money”.

I took a look at the reader comments associated with the Variety article. Wow. It appears that most Variety readers are conservative.

This one is typical:

Letterman had the ability to be very funny throughout his NBC years. During his first few years on CBS he was genuinely innovative and creative. ComedicalIy, I thought he had it all over Leno. Now, he’s just a mean, old man who likes to use his show to lash out at anyone (usually conservatives). You wouldn’t mind if he spread his venom among the whole political spectrum, but he’s just another shill for the liberals.

just to balance it out a bit. I haven’t watched any network shows (other than reruns like Seinfeld) in years.

but you have to give letterman his due, when I was in my 20’s, we thought he was hilarious. I don’t think you can say he wasn’t funny decades ago.

things have changed, my politics, and him sticking his politics in his act.

Not counting Letterman, whose just a bitter old man now, the rest of Leno’s contemporaries just traffic in stunts designed to get passed around on the internet rather than actually doing something humorous.

They just take something hot in pop culture at the moment, add something geeky like a reference to Dr. Who or Arrested Development, and then run around for 3 minutes while the winner of last year’s American Idol sings Staying Alive with a banjo.

Leno was funny. He made fun of hilary the red queen challenging her to come on his show.

Her people called his bluff. She went on and took over withed canned q&a.

He looked like a POW on camera under duress

Went in for an emergency coronary bypass the next day

Been a hareful lib spokesman ever since. Never before

He went over out of fear it seems.

I dont know how people, Americans, can do that

Hes been a failure and will go down in history as a bitter fool

People dont want to hear whom a celeb prefers personally. Equal opportunity mockery is the only acceptable position

Johnny carson did it

Leno's recent ratings spike happened because he became more truthful in criticizing 0bama in his opening monologue, especially regarding the scandals. He gave his VIEWERS what they wanted to hear, not the 0bama administration!

His recent show with Mitt Romney was excellent. He didn't seek to entrap him or frame the topic with an agenda of spiking the football for 0bama.

It's Leno's promotion/protection of 0bama that turned off viewers and especially now that's it's clear to even his brain dead viewers that the 0bama regime is total failure and not worthy of praise.

Fallon will turn The Tonight Show into 'ghetto hour' which will probably alienate 30-40% of the show's current viewers. Fallon is talented but his transparent appeasement of blacks is tiresome.

... I have a feeling that, even though Leno is quite a funny guy, his jabs at the Prez with a fez and this administration are garnering a growing viewership of people that less than impressed with Mr. Obama.

Leno’s made the decision to appeal to ALL Americans - liberal and conservative. Not only are Leno’s numbers UP but his advertisers must be thrilled...

Letterman’s become a bitter, snarling old punk.A punk that hits on the hired help even when they’re young enough to be his granddaughter.

Gee...didn’t NBC try this once before? Leno was #1 in the ratings, but the network wanted someone who would appeal to a younger, hipper demographic. And we know how that worked out.

Now, they’re going to do it again. Except this time, NBC won’t have Leno around to bail them out. A lot of people think that Jay will sign with Fox and launch another late night talk show in about a year. That will just about finish NBC; “Today” and “Tonight” are their cash cows, and the morning show is now #2 behind Good Morning America, and that decline is costing them millions a year. If Fallon tanks in the 11:30 slot (a virtual certainty), then NBC will lose at least 1/3 of its advertising revenue.

It isn’t that Leno is so good but rather that late night talk is so damn bad.

The only thing liberal network executives and newspaper owners have proven to be good at is losing their audiences.

Day after day, year after year, the decline has been constant. The only thing left is for companies like NBC and the New York Times to lose so much revenue, they go bankrupt.

Then Fox News and the Koch brothers can pick up the pieces and create better journalism.
