Teenager arrested for Facebook post beaten up in prison (Texas)

Things aren’t getting any better for a 19-year-old video gamer who has been locked up since March for the remarks he made over Facebook. The father of the teen now says his son is being beaten up while he waits to stand trial.

In an interview with National Public Radio that aired Wednesday, Jack Carter said his son Justin has suffered countless injuries since being locked up in a Texas detention facility more than three months ago.

"Without getting into the really nasty details, he's had concussions, black eyes, moved four times from base for his own protection," Jack Carter told NPR. "He's been put in solitary confinement, nude, for days on end because he's depressed. All of this is extremely traumatic to this kid. This is a horrible experience."

Prisoner abuse isn’t anything new, but the so-called crime that’s left Justin Carter facing potentially eight years in prison could be unprecedented. He’s been locked up without trial since late March after authorities were alerted to a Facebook message that Carter says he made in jest.

Only 18 at the time, Carter had just wrapped up session on the online role-playing game “League of Legends” when he got into a spat with a friend over Facebook. Speaking to KVUE news last month, his father explained how what was supposed to be a sarcastic remark posted publically ended up with an unexpected jail stint.

“Someone had said something to the effect of 'Oh you're insane, you're crazy, you're messed up in the head,’” he called, “to which he replied 'Oh yeah, I'm real messed up in the head, I'm going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts.’”

Actually, no there's not. The Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and pretty much the rest of the rule of law disappeared in 2009.

Ok....I'm for defending it. Any of the 50 states want to take a stand, I will move there...I thought the first would be Texas....obviously they have their own problems.

Whatever happened to “innocent until proven guilty?” Why is the kid still behind bars? Was there no bail?

Bail was set at half a million dollars. Not many can afford that.

Austin has been lost for years. Houston and Dallas have followed them to the left along with the southern border counties.

And all over Facebook and Twitter the Moron Class is promising to riot and kill people if George Zimmerman is acquitted. Why isn’t the Gestapo going after them?

But that's different. Those are Holder's people. They can do and say whatever they want.

I went back to the article and saw his bail was 500,000 which is absurd....the judge should be horsewhipped....

Someone's going to jail for that remark .... (/sarc)

Something I'm curious about:

“Someone had said something to the effect of 'Oh you're insane, you're crazy, you're messed up in the head,’” he called, “to which he replied...'

What did he say to earn this rebuke? What did the kid post prior to, and following his infamous remark?

And, why is a 19 year old kid so absorbed in a video game?

I have only so much outrage left in me, and before I dispense anymore of it, I want to know the whole story.

Justin Carter Facebook threat update: Comal County District Court in Texas sets bond hearing date

snip
A Texas teen who’s been jailed more than four months for a Facebook comment he made during
a video-game argument is finally getting a day in court that could let him go home.

Justin Carter, who was 18 when he was arrested, will appear in Comal County (Texas) District
Court on Tuesday, July 16, for a bond hearing, according to his lawyer, Don Flanary.

Flanary told CNN he will argue to have Carter’s $500,000 bond, which his family cannot
afford to cover, reduced.

"If you can’t do the time . . . . Don’t do the crime. . . ."

That's so 19th century.

Nowadays one doesn't know if one has committed a crime. We're all crimists.

In these days, My Friend, one commits some crime each day one wakes up and goes a one’s business. Whether one is arrested for said crime does not matter, what matters is that one is subject to arrest should the powers to be choose.

My thoughts too. I have to think there is more, or at least i'd LIKE to think so. After all, this is Texas (where commonsense still prevails most of the time) and not California. So what led to that exchange and what came after it? And how much Is the father downplaying the event? And does his son have a history of violence and/or psychological problems that we aren't privy to?

The fact that he keeps getting beat up tells me something is not quite right with him. I mean, i'd expect to have heard Zimmerman getting beat up but not this guy, not unless he brought it upon himself to some extent at least.

Maybe it's what he posted and the reason he is in jail that is the cause of him getting beat up. It involved children.

And yet Perry continues to go on his “come to Texas” tour. We don’t need people moving here and bringing the f’ed up liberal ways with them. The last job I left I was on a team on about 25 and I was one of only 2 Texans. Everyone else was from California, Washington, NY, Illinois, Ohio, Canada or India.

Perry needs to keep his butt at home and look forward to retirement (hopefully).

That could be, but i would think prisoners would see it as just a stupid comment he made unless he gave them reason to think he just might be screwy enough to have done what he “joked” about.

In cases like this, always look for the prosecutor with political ambitions...

You do realize thay even if you have the Admin. Mod. remove that post, it has already been captured and stored by the government of which that judge is party to?

The kid needs to find a new town to live in where they read books now and again.

He already has...he's living there now.

If you can find the FULL quote, the next short sentence was something like “no way” or “never happen.” I can’t remember the exact words, but it was short and was a negation (indicating sarcasm) of the preceeding sentence.

The media lie.

The media lie ALL THE TIME.

The media lie; learn it, live it.
