Hey Tom don’t give up the box. Show us the path if there is one we don’t know about.

Well, the Republican party started in 1854 or 56 (IIRC) and ran a candidate who lost. They held together and ran another candidate the next election -- and they won. The candidate's name was Abraham Lincoln.
The current GOPe only offer more of the same -- more Bushs, more Doles, more McCains. Already we foresee a Bush or Rubio or Christie as the probable next GOPe candidate. The GOP will offer a slate of conservatives, and that will splinter the primary votes, as it did in 2008 and 2012.
I just do no see a way that 'conservatives' can do much from within. Their one golden opportunity was regarding the election of the House Speaker earlier this year, and they blew that. As soon as they reelected him, he replaces several of the 'conservative' committee chairs.
If conservatives stay, it will be more of the same, repeats of 2008 and 2012. If they go, they might be able to formulate a viable new party in a couple of election cycles.
