Once again, Twitter, Free Republic, etc., have been first with breaking news and have have caught MSM flat-footed.Yep! And the networks kept saying that the plane was on its back and the pictures were definitely showing the plane belly down. I don't know why they kept saying it when they were looking at the same pictures/video that I was watching!

Yes, the flight was assigned to land on a different runway.

Alleged was landing on the wrong runway, may have realized it powered up to go around and tail struck runway. MAYBE

Wrong scenario.....I can almost guarantee tail separation was due to a strike, not as result of buckling of fuselage.

I have to fly tomorrow, oh boy.
I’m guessing this was either pilot error or he lost power shortly before landing. The statement that they were supposed to land on a different runway would indicate they were having a problem though. Perhaps its the power issue.

"Boeing 777-200 landed on wrong runway"
Better than landing at the wrong airport. How could a pilot land a jumbo jet and not be on a localizer and glide slope? You have to report outer marker inbound, and usually middle marker. If you are on an approach to 27 but land on 22, how would your localizer cdi even show up?

They are talking about a possible explosion inside the aircraft that blew the tail off.
If so, oh boy, here we go.Very, very unlikely.
From the closeup images shown, the tail end of the passenger pressure vessel seems intact. Yellow looking and hemispherical.

That MD80 hard landing looks like a plausible comparison. Pilot was in trouble, took his choice of runways, apparently.

That 12 hour flight may have saved some lives as
it was landing with less fuel.

Mr GG2 thinks the fire started from the engine on the right side that is jammed up to the side of the plane. It was probably so hot it started the fire.
He says the wings are pinned so that if you have a hard landing the engine breaks away and slides under the wing and then is left behind. Apparently this engine somehow stayed with the aircraft and set off the fire.
