Currently just Tweets and locals talking about this, nothing on news sites yet. Lots of stuff in the Twitter feed, including links to uploaded videos of the smoking mess.
It looks like the starboard engine has fire and structural damage in the region of its hot section.
Shot on Facebook by one of the passengers shows others walking behind coming from the inflated escape slides, some even carrying luggage. At that time, the top of the plane, say forward of the wings, was intact.
Luckily as the photos taken by evacuating passengers show many people got out before the fire.
Asiana Airlines, Flight # 214 , left Seoul yesterday afternoon. 291 aboard.
The only airline I feel safe on is El Al, they screen you like crazy..the airfare is insanely high but your safe(Knock on wood)..15 hours on a plane is just too much for me. I can’t do the pill method, my sister does but not me, I have to pee every half hour if I took a sleeping pill by the time I wake up my bladder would explode LOL. At least when I was on the plane there were no Arabs, a lot of Rabbi’s and families but no Arabs thank goodness otherwise I would have been even more nervous
I’m looking at too soon also as where most of the tail parts ended up on the overrun. Probably took out some landing lights too.
wow, debris starts over the water BEFORE the runway.
Still seems more likely to me the tail damage occurred on hard/premature landing rather than a mid-air explosion.
Bingo we are looking at the embankment right now on TV. He took the landing gear off by coming in too soon.
Yes....there are restrooms in the rear of the aircraft. This aircraft has an enviable safety record with millions of of trouble free travel miles under its operating belt. From my fifty years in the aircraft maintenance industry.....I smell a rat!!!! IMHO....there was some kind of explosive incident in the main cabin that occurred in the forward mid cabin and foward aft cabin!!! That does not mean it was a terrorist attack. But....it needs to be investigated.
You can see a big burn mark where the starboard engine smacked the ground.
Something’s submerged just off the end of the runway. They’re fixing to fish it out.
Just saw a great shot of the runway and debris. Looks as if the plane was of the runway by a couple feet.
There is debris in the water and debris all over the rocks of the rocks.
And do a little flare as well. . .they aren’t landing on a carrier.
Good to see doors open there.. I thought I saw many door closed in initial photos but I’m praying HARD that everyone got out! I know SF coastal has LOTS of seagulls flying around and that makes me suspect of a bird strike causing loss of power and a tail smack.
Video on fox shows small amount of debris in the water at the very front of the runway. Looks like a trail leading from the water up the runway. Lots of very small debris from water leading down the runway to the remains of the tail.
They are saying witnesses reporting the tail fell off before it landed. I’m wondering if it hit the runway, bounced and then the tail fell off.
Sorry, I meant PORT engine.
not sure about that now that I see the debris trail
Given who the operator of the aircraft is, I guess it is Asian carp they are battling in the fuselage.
Youtube is full of boaters fighting those damned things in the Illinois River....coming to a creek near you.
Seeing the breakwater and what you’re talking about now. Anyone see the left engine yet?
