Is the Zimmerman Case Really Open and Shut?
Front Page ^ | 7/5/13 | David Horowitz

Is the Zimmerman case really open and shut?

Many conservatives seem to think so. But are they letting leftists dictate their conclusion? Are they not guilty of the same rush to judgment that made liberals convict Zimmerman before the facts, and merely reacting to that injustice rather than to the actual elements of the case? Is it not possible that they are themselves victims of a toxic environment that polarizes all things racial?

It is a fact that many, if not most conservatives have already concluded that George Zimmerman is innocent of any crime in connection with Trayvon Martin’s death and should be acquitted if justice is to be served. Indeed, this opinion was formed long before the trial began as a reaction to the outcry of liberals that Zimmerman was guilty — and guilty of being white – and that the crime was murder, and must be punished. But just because a lynch mob has formed to condemn Zimmerman in advance of the facts, does not mean one must conclude that Zimmerman is innocent of Trayvon Martin’s death.

The political melodrama that surrounds, and often overwhelms the judgments in this case reflects a culture war that has been roiling in this country for decades. It is a war in which the liberal ethos of “political correctness” requires that whites are bad and blacks are victims. Right-thinking individuals are justified in rejecting this poisonous standard. But in the interests of justice, the political melodrama should also not be allowed to obscure the reality of this trial: it is about the death of an unarmed 17-year-old, who was not a felon, who was on a neighborhood run to get Skittles, and whose life has been extinguished. Given that the young man was unarmed and that he inflicted very superficial injuries on

“Be assured that there is NOTHING like actually being in the courtroom and sitting as a juror.”

Being a month removed from 6 weeks of jury duty, and serving on three, I agree with you. I’m trying to judge this based on the people I served with and the deliberations experienced. Myself? He’s innocent. Don’t have a clue what these women will decide

Then again “should” is right up there with “if”. And since when have things gone the way they “should”? Especially over the past 4-5 years?

Pay attention! This isn’t, and never was a SYG case. It is self defense plain and simple.

"Is the Zimmerman Case Really Open and Shut?"

The jurors will not chance a verdict that will force them to spend the rest of their lives looking over their shoulders.

Horowitz lost credibility when he brought up “Stand Your Ground.” It simply does not apply.

Correct. . .plus it is not about proving Zimmerman is innocent. . it is about the prosecution proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt!

What really happened that night is buried with Trayvon Martin. We cannot hear both sides and split the difference or reject one and embrace the other. What we do know is that a young man who was unarmed and guiltless of any crime is dead. And shouldn’t there be some penalty to pay for that?

No, we DON'T know that, David.

If Trayvon Martin jumped Zimmerman and viciously assaulted him - as certainly appears FROM THE EVIDENCE to be the case - then he wasn't "guiltless of any crime."

According to Zimmerman, Trayvon Martin was guilty of the crime of ATTEMPTED MURDER.

And from the evidence, I certainly tend to believe Zimmerman's account of it.

Jackass.

Unfortunately I think the case will be decided by politics not by any form of law or sense of justice. Liberal are controlled by emotion not logic or common sense.

David Horowitz has soiled himself with this piece. He’ll never be rid of the stench.

What got into Horowitz? Did someone pressure him to write this?

I believe that’s Dershowitz that’s preparing for it.

West and O’Mara are going to so dismantle the state’s case with their own that anyone thinking of looting will be too busy nursing their wounds to come out of their holes.

If the ones who will riot had half a brain, you would be right, but, they won't think they will simply, like good little obamaites, riot.

No matter the verdict, they riot. Just like a NBA championship in Detroit. It is just an excuse to destroy.

We agree. Now it will be interesting to see what will happen if the rioters are so stupid as to leave the safety of the inner cities and come out into the rural areas.

You nailed it. The verdict is going to depend on how much these six women feel threatened that race riots are going to break out.

That is why the prosecution had no problem with all women 5 being white. As my wife so often tells me, "Girls scare easier than boys".

Given that the young man was unarmed and that he inflicted very superficial injuries on his adversary during their scuffle, Zimmerman’s claim that he was in fear for his life has to be taken with a grain of salt, to say the least.

Gotta love it when some prig, who probably never suffered a bloody nose, much less a broken nose, can't understand what happens when one takes heavy physical assault. A broken nose will cause much distraction and initial "vertigo". If one has ever just had their head bumped against the floor, not even enough to break the skin, they understand that when the brain jostles, it has a strong affect on one's facilities and only a mild "bump" or two of this sort can most certainly make one feel helpless enough to believe his life is in danger. Having someone causing the "bumps", and adding punches to the mix should be enough to give anyone reason to believe their life is in danger. The injury doesn't have to be life-threatening to in order to be setting up a life-threatening situation.

Unfortunately, it may well be about the jurors feeling safe when they go home.

You mean the bushes where the police testified they found the “slim jim”? Those bushes don’t exist?

There are people who are just prone to loot and riot at the drop of a hat — when the A’s win, when the A’s lose, when the A’s win the pennant, when the A’s lose the pennant — the excuses are legion. And in this case the one’s most prone to riot are the ones who don’t even know what a Trayvon Martin is.

Right after the acquittal I would bring the Scheme Team to the microphone and make them say that they accept the jury’s verdict and the matter is over. If they said anything other than that to stoke the dying embers, and my store was looted, I would sue them into oblivion.

And worse it can lead you to take the life of someone who whatever he did, did not deserve to die.

This is the very last sentence.

Did not deserve to die>??????????????????????????????? That's why we are having the trial; a trial which those closest to it, police and prosecutors, did not even see a need for. The writer has imbibed the Kool Ade
