Three police officers have been pulled from street duty for their safety in Southern California after a video of them shooting a dog dead as they arrested its owner hit the internet.
A cellphone video that had more than 3.7 million views on YouTube by Thursday morning shows the dog, named Max, being shot after scrambling out of a car's back seat through a window and lunging at officers who had handcuffed its master. The dog's owner Leon Rosby had been filming a police raid in Hawthrone California, and was arrested for alleged obstruction of justice.

Okay Mr. know it all, have it your way. I’m not the only one who disagrees with you. Carry on.
Ya Vol. The Hitler supporters must comprende!
Don’t worry, I will.
Stay ignorant, my friend.
True statement.
Yeah but he looked scary
Yep—Just like those darn TeaParty folk.
I read the articles, I watched the video. Rosbys arrest had nothing to do with him video taping police.
********************************************************************
He was CLEARLY guilty of “disrespecting” cops (who likely have low self-esteem and have thin skins) who were HALF A BLOCK away from him. The cowardly and fearful cop who shot the dog (which was NOT attacking him—we’ve seen the video also) was clearly eager to do the shooting.
Look, for all I know you may be a cop coming to defend a fellow officer, but, if so, you are doing yourself and your profession no favors by defending the indefensible. Good cops need to eliminate bad cops from their ranks!
They wouldn't have had to deal with any animal behavior, if they had simply left the dog's owner alone, instead of arresting him for doing something totally legal and entirely within his rights.
Hopefully the department in question will be sued for the false arrest as well. It's what they deserve. Police are supposed to enforce the law, not make it up as they go...
And what can you, and should you be arrested for in this new world? I can think of many things ... what color shoes are you wearing comrade?
They now train the police to actually shoot dogs.
I work at a university in the Continuing Education building. They hold Crime Prevention classes and seminars occasionally for law enforcement.
The trainers tell the officers to shoot the dogs. There has been a few cases where thugs “sic’ed” their dogs on the police, and this has been confabulated in some law enforcement training that dogs are dangerous and for officers to not hesitate to take them down.
Not quite North Korea. The police would have eaten the dog.
I’m not a cop...in fact, I’m as hard or harder on police as anyone here on the forum when they misbehave.
That being said, I look at every incident individually, and when I see police being unnecessarily abused I’ll go just as hard the other way.
Rosby was being a nuisance and causing a distraction in the immediate vicinity of a tense standoff between police and armed robbery suspects. He was given several orders to turn down the volume of his music and/or leave the area. He could have left, he didn’t. He was trying to provoke a confrontation with the police.
Given the entirety of the situation, the police were not only within their rights, it was their responsibility to remove him as a distraction and maintain control of the scene—either by making him leave, or by taking him into custody.
Rosby made the choice to get arrested—that’s what he wanted. Rosby precipitated the whole incident, and it is he who is at fault for getting his dog shot.
What the hell does that have to do with anything?
Sorry, say what you will...but he was a half a block from the cops, and from the video (which had sound) I could not hear any loud radio blaring.
A good cop, like a good soldier, can focus on accomplishing the job or mission at hand and not be distracted by a non threat half a block away. The guy who was arrested was clearly a jerk (which, until recent years, was not a crime) but these cops were incompetent and non-professional in my opinion. I expect to hear anytime that they have been placed on administrative leave (government jargon for a paid vacation) as their “punishment”.
I didn't hear that command on audio part of the video.
Did it look like he was interfering with someone to you?
If he was interfering and disobeying them, why did he comply so fast?
So its the guy’s fault the cops shot his dog?
This over-zealous LEO thing is not only putting them in a terrible light, eventually it will not end well for them.
Most people are dog lovers and can not understand all this cop killing dogs culture. If that happened to me, likely the cop nor I would survive.
So... just so we’re clear...
If an unsecured 130lb rottweiler came at YOU, you wouldn’t defend yourself?
What WOULD you do... sniff his arse?
I do think the cops were overzealous. I think they should have uncuffed the guy so he could have handled the dog. However, when you have a big dog that has a reputation for having an aggressive nature you always have to be conscience of the fear that a big dog instills in other people and keep the dog contained.
Actually, having just watched the video again, the perp was just across the street from where the standoff was occurring...not half a block away...if you watch from the beginning, you can see the 2nd house down from the corner the police are actually making an armed entry. The perp at that point is probably within 100 feet of where the action is.
You can also clearly hear the loud music from the car.
Another instance where only the foreign press is on the ball once again.

Less. Barely comfortable with 1/3 open.
