MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Fourth of July tradition that’s been around for decades is canceled this year because police fear it draws gangs.
Police urged the City of Richfield to cancel its annual Fourth of July Carnival at Veterans Park.
“I was kind of bummed,” said resident Maria Casillas, “because every year we come out to the carnival.”
Casillas thinks it’s ridiculous for the gangs to ruin the carnival for her, her two children and other families.
Lt. Mike Flaherty of Richfield Police says a number of gangs from north Minneapolis came to the Richfield Carnival last year and police confiscated three guns.
“Every year that the carnival’s there, it always seems to be kind of a hot spot for trouble,” he said.
Flaherty added: “We went to the City, we went to the Fourth of July committee, explained our concerns from a public safety standpoint, and our recommendation was not to have the carnival anymore.”

The way I figure it, they probably weren’t paying for the fireworks anyway (just as they don’t pay for their schools, police, etc.). I have no problem with canceling it anywhere “thugs” are a problem; they aren’t “American” anyway (and don’t apprecite their significance).
Having us cower to thugs is the democrat party way. Eric Holder stood for the New Black Panthers armed with baseball bats while people were voting at that time. Standing your ground and/or protecting your castle are democrat no-no’s (Martin-Zimmerman case). Flash mobs with theft and destruction aren’t covered by media and if they are, the perpetrators race is undisclosed (protected).
If Obama had a gang it would look like them.
If these things were stopped the first time & extreme penalties incurred they would think twice. I think what a country like Malaysia must think of how we let thugs ruin our lives. It’s NOT fair!
That guy that was caught on tape beating that women during the home invasion in New Jersey had 12 felony convictions. TWELVE!!!
Yeah but some great-great-great Grandpa of the perp might have been on a slave ship or perhaps running it. Holder’s people get more strikes in the game.
We're supposed to accept that different cultures just have different customs and ways of expressing themselves. We should embrace diversity and all that!

But we got the pRez doing an ‘around the world’ vacation/tour with the bride and a few hundred(??) friends while fireworks are being cancelled at MILITARY BASES and ‘little’ guys are being furloughed.
Lets park ALL the pResidential Fleet and lay off some of the ‘Palace Guard’ AND FURLOUGH CONGRESS and the SENATE w/o pay for a couple months.
Now that would be progress.
Police fears trump rights—but we’re not a police state, because the cops confiscated some guns last year.
And he just pleaded not guilty to this one. With 12 priors and the fact that he’s still alive, let alone on the street, tells you something about how ass-backwards things are at the moment.
