The Egyptian military generally supported Egypt's peace accord with Israel, negotiated and kept by the past three Egyptian Presidents before Morsi.

Egypt HAD a decent tourist industry under these conditions, as well as some other economic benefits.

It is possible that the military wants to return to those conditions.

Maintaining or improving the peace with Israel and pulling support for the misnamed "Arab Spring" "rebels"/terrorists, would tend to improve stability in the ME, and make it more difficult to suck Egypt into a war for the Caliphate and against Israel.

“Reuters is reporting that the Egyptian Army ousted former President Mohammed Morsi in part over his calls for backing the Syrian rebels against dictator Bashar al-Assad.”

I can only think this is a half truth.

The protests against Morsi were NOT directed at his calls for support for the Syrian “rebels”. They were not in the street for that reason.

IF - a big IF - the Rueters report is 1/2 right - then (a) the Egyptian military used the excuse of the protests against Morsi to act against him for their own reasons, however (b) I doubt the military would have risked violent protests against them if there had been no such excuse and they had deposed Morsi anyway.
