Officials from Mursis government have made a string of statements in recent months that have raised the spectre of tighter restrictions on alcohol sales.
The government doubled beer tax to 200 percent this month, with taxes on other alcoholic drinks rising from 100 percent to 150 percent.
In February, the New Urban Communities Authority said it would stop issuing alcohol licenses to new housing developments, and in March Aviation Minister Wael al-Maadawi announced plans to ban alcohol in the duty free shops his ministry runs.

Give me beer or give me death!!
That’s a good excuse for regime change!
It’s HOT.
They need their BEER!
Given the History of the Egyptian People and beer no wonder Mursi is gone.
Obama would like to implement a 200% tax.
200% tax on alcohol ,same thing that’s happing in Turkey ,but Drugs ,no problem use as mush as you want
Hands off muh brew, bro. That would whip up revolt, fer sure.
Beer was a large part of the diet of the men who built the pyramids.
Last time I’ve been to Egypt long time ago there were little to none visible islamists but beer was in short supply anyway. It took a hour or more than a hour for me to find a place to buy a six-pack in a heavily populated area. All the beer I’ve seen there was of one brand - Stella. Not too good, but drinkable. I think it is harder to find now.
This year in Turkey I’ve been to major supermarkets without any alcohol for sale at all. It is a pretty new for Turkey.
For years the Les Rois hotel in the Egyptian resort of Hurghada offered guests the chance to enjoy a little tipple under the Red Sea sun.
Men and women could mingle over a G&T at the rooftop pool bar or enjoy a pint downstairs in the English ‘pub’.
But last weekend, to cheers of ‘God is Great’, the owners poured the entire contents of their drinks cabinet down the the drain and declared Les Rois the resort’s first official alcohol-free hotel.

Under President Mohamed Morsi’s Muslim brotherhood alcohol restrictions have been tightened, segregated areas are springing up and citizens must declare the religion on their state ID cards.

It will surely do wonders for their business.
To be fair Egypt was a pretty crappy place to start with.
There are only who reasons to visit it: pyramids and diving&snorkeling. The main idea is to be in a good hotel to minimize interaction with the rest of Egypt which is a dirt-ridden hellhole. Sitting for a couple weeks in an hotel sober with only a single excursion to pyramids and a few sessions of snorkeling must too much boring.
