We went to Jerusalem in May 2010. On Sunday the streets and busses and tour sites were full of Israeli soldiers in full uniform with weapons. They seemed to be on a day leave.
Never felt so safe.
Israeli soldiers must carry their weapons with them all the time and that takes some getting used to for tourists who are not used to seeing such an open display of readiness and defense...
