The Egyptian army has set a deadline of 4 p.m. Cairo time for the Muslim Brotherhood government of President Morsi to compromise with the people of Egypt (by stepping down.) Morsi refuses. 18 people were killed and 200 were wounded in clashes at Cairo University last night.
A Washington Post report from Cairo on dueling statements from Morsi and the army:
Waving his hands and shaking his fists in a 45-minute speech on national television late Tuesday, Morsi swore that he was committed to the democratic process that brought him to power and said that any attempts to subvert the constitution were “unacceptable.”
The army, in turn, posted a message to its Facebook page saying: “We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool.”
In his speech, Morsi acknowledged that he had made mistakes during his year in office as Egypt’s first democratically elected president. But he appealed to Egyptians to give him more time to deal with the country’s problems.

20:20 Egypt’s military spokesman Ahmed Ali has said on his official Facebook page that the meeting between the army’s commander-in-chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and the religious and national groups has ended. A statement revealing meeting’s outcome will be coming within the hour.

I was at “Stand in the Gap” at the National Mall many years ago. Over one million folks attended. It really is mind boggling how many people that really is..........like over one million. Anywho, to keep a crowd like that more than 24 hours is truly remarkable.
I am hearing Muslim Brotherhood now distancing themselves from Morsi...and of course we know why...they want to be a part of the new governance...but I understand the people have already determined there will be guidelines on who can run...time will tell...
Yes it is thrilling to see this History...but this will not be long standing...the New Government will have their hands full dealing with Etheopia building there dam to siphon Nile water....which continues.

Tunisian opposition activists on July 3 launched a new protest movement inspired by Egypt’s Tamarod, or “rebel,” movement, which organized the ongoing mass protests in Egypt, Reuters reported. Similar to their Egyptian counterparts, the Tunisian Tamarod leaders accuse the ruling Ennahda party of attempting to usher in a religious state that smother personal freedoms while failing to solve the country’s economic issues. The activists say they plan to call for mass protests and claim to have gathered some 200,000 signatures from Tunisians opposed to the government. Tunisia is plagued by divisions, which are partially geographically determined.
