JOHANNESBURG — As South Africa prepares for life without the father of the Rainbow Nation, some members of the once-ruling white minority fear Nelson Mandela's spirit of reconciliation may fade after his death.
When apartheid ended nearly two decades ago, many whites braced for the worst. Conditioned for years to be wary of the "swart gevaar" -- black threat -- they feared being thrown into the sea.
That prophecy never materialised.
When he became South Africa's first black president in 1994, Nelson Mandela closed a dark chapter of his life in prison and reached out to his former oppressors to the point of having tea with the widow of the architect of apartheid, Hendrik Verwoerd.
With the father of democratic South Africa now fighting for his life in hospital, wild rumours have been flying around the Internet about what life will be like without Mandela for the white population.
"The death of Mandela could mark a turning point toward disaster," according to one article posted on the Facebook page of a group calling itself "Save the white people in South Africa".
AfriForum, a non-profit organisation that represents the interests of white Afrikaners, has received phone calls from people asking: "What's going to happen? Should they be afraid?" said its deputy chief executive Ernst Roets.
"We see people, especially on social media, saying things like 'if Mandela dies, they will kill all white people'," he said.

It’s not just an internet meme, I first heard it years ago from South African expats themselves.

The western nations who boycotted and browbeat South Africa for years, are now refusing asylum to the white South Africans. Also, the ANC won’t let them take but a certain amount of their own money, to ensure South Africa doesn’t suffer complete “brain drain”. But they give these whites lowly positions and low pay, despite the fact that they can’t run the country (such as they do) without them. Many job placement ads say “no whites” or “only blacks”.
I think I read that 70 percent of management in private industry is white or "Asian" (mostly white). The Commies in charge are furious at this, fulminating that "we have a law" that says the captains of industry have to be black.
Law? Just a couple of decades ago, you weren't that fond of laws, were you?
The whites should emigrate here through Mexico.

I know many white South Africans and they would never want anything Mandel did to survive, he is a communist.
Coming bloodshed will be intence—South Africa will become whole under a Black Napoleon—who will make a deal with whites—my bet he will be a Zulu Tribesman.

Mandela’s own wife endorsed “necklacing”, including to black “spies and traitors” to the “cause”.

Whites have had 20 years to clean up their business and flee South Africa. I feel horrible for those white families who are descendants of the Dutch settlers who, over 300 years ago, developed and farmed what was mostly barren wasteland only to watch invaders from other parts of Africa overrun the place, take it over, and then run it into the ground. It must be heartbreaking.
It’s one thing to see your house on fire and stick around to try to put the fire out to save what you can. But it’s something else altogether when the burning rafters are falling down upon your head.

I had a very dear SA friend, born there, who sought to immigrate to the US. As a native African, she was welcomed with open arms, until it was discovered that she was white.
No dice.
To whites still on the continent, I can only hope they GTFO while they still can.
They're welcome in Australia, Canada and Latin America. I doubt they'll have too many issues moving abroad.
