On the heels of Windows 8.1 announcements, the Windows 8 operating system is just starting to make moves as the new third most popular operating system. Windows 8 had 5.1 percent of all desktop OS web traffic in June, beating Vista for the first time, according to web analytics firm Net Applications. Windows Vista saw a smaller 4.62 percent of traffic that same month. The OS' positions were switched in May when the W8 numbers sat at 4.27 percent, edged out by Vista's 4.51 percent of web traffic. Interestingly, both operating systems gained market share between the months of May and June. A further feather in the cap of Windows 8 is the fact that Microsoft today revealed its Windows Store has now passed 100,000 apps, a feat the company said it was close to last week during Build 2013.

If Gates were smart, he’d haul out good ol’ XP and slap a “Windows 12” sticker on it and everybody would be happy. One of our systems has Vista, which sucks. Two others have Win 7. I’m holding on to the XP system like grim death.
Of course, if Gates were smart, at the outset he’d have picked up WordPerfect instead of Word to include in the Office bundles.
Same here... and I am a tech working on the public’s computers, I hear nothing but complaints, I personally hate it myself. It’s just about forcing the consumer to buy their product, if they want a Windows PC.
The problem with Win 8 is that execrable, ugly, annoying, never-to-be-sufficiently-damned touch-screen based user interface. The more MS does to make that go away, and the easier MS makes it for those of us who don't want "Metro" to get rid of "Metro", the better MS's chances of seeing Win 8 be accepted by corporate users and content creators.
Ever heard of Amazon.com?
Right, a ‘toy’ still in my case. Still trying to figure out what apps I can’t live without.
MS software engineers don’t exactly know what I want, or the concept (”Windows 8 puts everything at my fingertip”) was developed by ‘marketing geniuses’.
The Luddites say, "HELLO!"
Of course, if Gates were smart, at the outset hed have picked up WordPerfect instead of Word to include in the Office bundles.
He is only the richest man in America, Has been for over 15 years. Of course he is not smart. Not at all. /sarc
i am Vista came on a refurbished laptop I got runs well on 3GB of ram
Free My Start Button!
Usage statistics are completely worthless and meaningless as when you go to purchase a new laptop/desktop from many Mfgs, they will only sell Win8 which is crap.
It is not a poll when you are forced into an answer.
Yep, been purchasing computers there and other sites for my customers. Please stop the arrogance, there is no need for it.
Wrong on every count.

Nice try but you seem to be wrong! I attempted to buy 2 laptops with the specs I wanted and I could only obtain them with Win 8.
I purchased another with Win7 as I will not be dictated to by the MS monopoly even if I must use their product for what I support.
They absolutely blew up ADO, VB, VBA, VB-Net and have been scrambling to patch all they broke.
Win 8 is the biggest piece of crap since the virus known as vista. If I didn’t have to support legacy systems controlling equipment in the multi-million dollar range I would have dumped MS a long time ago but sometimes you have to make the best of the hand MS deals and it sure as hell is not Win 8.
Yeah—because we all know that wealth indicates intelligence. /sarc
Let us know when the new Mac Pro is about to hit the Apple stores so I know when to get in line, please?
I got both XP and 7. I will not use Vista (though I have it for fixing/reprogramming computers I repair, it’s a Dell Vista) and I definitely will not be using 8. We’ll see how things go with 8.1 after it comes out. I’m sure another service pack is already in the works for it.
I wonder what would fall under “Other?”
I truly like W8. It’s easy to use and it’s actually a lot more intuitive than previous versions.
LOL Other!
Let’s see... in my house we have ONE OSX, two Vista, two W7, several XP, and a couple of Linux machines. it wasn’t that long ago, I still had several Windows 2000 machines, and a couple of ‘98’s.
ONE guy I know claims, as a beta tester for Microsoft since W 3.11, that Windows 8 is the bestest, fastest, leanest, meanest, and far and away the best Microsoft has ever produced. Which is interesting, as, as a flight simmer, W8 has been a handful of trouble. I’m loathe to go near it.
Telling tales out of school again to push your anti-crosoft agenda eh? Chuckle! Won't be the first time Applebots have tried that particular trick. They have being doing that for years. The fact of the matter is that Amazon, Best Buy, WalMart and other top PC retailers are still offering Windows 7 PC’s as well as Win 8 PC’s. I just gave you a link to Amazon in my previous post. However you persist on living in your little fantasy world where Microsoft is “forcing” hapless Applebots to buy Windows 8 PC’s, something that is just not the case, no matter how many times you keep repeating it.
“Win 8 is the biggest piece of crap since the virus known as vista”
Naaaah. However I can't say the same about you and your viral postings.
In another few months, Win 8 will overtake the entire install base of all OSX versions (despite the easy availability of Win 7 PC’s), then the Applebots can really go crazy. :)
Yeah?
So why do you persist on posting the fiction that people are forced to buy Win 8 PC’s because Win 7 PC’s are not available for sale then?
