Bush on Snowden: ‘He damaged the security of the country’
Yahoo News ^ | Dylan Stableford

Posted on 07/01/2013 8:30:29 AM PDT by USS Johnston

Former President George W. Bush has weighed in on the Edward Snowden saga, telling CNN the former National Security Agency contractor threatened the security of U.S. citizens by leaking information about the surveillance program his administration created after the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.

"I know he damaged the country," Bush said in an interview from Zambia, where he and his wife, Laura, are on a humanitarian mission. "The Obama administration will deal with it. I think he damaged the security of the country."

Like President Barack Obama, Bush deflected criticism of the spy program.

"I put the program in place to protect the country, and one of the certainties is civil liberties were guaranteed," Bush said in the interview...

Bush also refused to criticize his successor. "It doesn't do any good," he said. "It's a hard job. He has plenty on his agenda and it's difficult. [A] former president doesn't need to make it harder."

The White House said Obama will meet Bush on Tuesday in Tanzania...

He added: "You know, ultimately history will judge the decisions that I made. And I won't be around because it's going to take a while for the objective historians to show up. So I'm pretty comfortable with it. I did what I did."

It’s very strange that the Republicans are the only ones upset with Snowden. Is Snowden working for the Democrats ?

What are you talking about? For a sampling of how off-base that is, look up Diane Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi, and every Obama sychophant in the media.

Yes, odd that it's been up to Vichy Pubbies to criticize Snowden's revelation that the 4th Amendment is rourinely trashed.

No one knows who is working for whom -- except NONE of them seem to be working for We The People.

>>One day a so-called “conservative” supporter of Snowden will take a step back and rationally examine what Snowden has done.

The US Government stopped being “for the people” quite a few years ago. It does not provide security, promote liberty, and is even trying to destroy happiness. The “War on Terror” is a fraud because the government won’t even name the enemy! The rest of the world doesn’t care what we say or do because we have no credibility.

Try to live up to your handle and wake up! This isn’t 1950 and the government is at war with the people of the United States.

“”I put the program in place to protect the country, and one of the certainties is civil liberties were guaranteed,” Bush said”

Well we can see those guarantees weren’t worth the paper they were written on.

"you folks made it easy...finish off America"

That's a uniquely ridiculous comment.

If security were the real concern we would secure our borders and end our muslim preferential immigration policies.

AMEN! (Beginning back in 2001.)

As far as I can tell the only people who didn’t know the US Govt was doing this was the American people.

The democrats knew it. The republicans knew it.

The chinese and russians already knew it.

So what damage did he really do to national security by telling the american public what their govt is doing?

THe only reason the corrupt MSM is now trotting out Bush as an elder statesman is because they want to use Bush to take the heat off of Obama and the Snowden fiasco.

Yup.

And Bush is only too glad to help (not that the selective persecution of conservatives and Tea Party by the IRS, DHS, NSA, and DoJ bothered him.)

This is a stunt and a charade.

Like so much hell it is!

Look at the figures pertaining to the growth of the central socialist government for example!

“Read my lips: NO NEW TAXES”

These people are NWO aficionados.

No Jeb either!

Bush helped destroy our Constitution and our freedoms.

One of the worst Presidents in American history.

Thanks for the police state and debt and open borders and successful invasion from the south Jorge.

But, as usual, that day is not today.

It sure isn't. But you are on the mark about Snowden.

I find it really hard to believe that Snowden has now tipped off the terrorists on U.S. investigative techniques which will make it harder for the intelligence community to prevent terror attacks.

That MUST be the diversionary focus and defense of the indefensible: The complete and utter trashing of 300 million American's 4th Amendment Right.

How desperate are the Statist-Fascists? They've pulled George W. Bush out of mothballs.

I disagree. IMO, The Obama administration has brought this down on itself. It needed to be exposed. Yes, we may suffer, but the responsibility lies with the fascists committing the original crimes against the Constitution.

But, as regards damaging our security, that’s ironic in a sad way. Clinton SOLD state secrets for cash, Obama is giving them away for the purpose of damaging this country; he is deliberately emasculating our security services and our military. The only thing he is strengthening is domestic agencies to clamp down on AMERICANS. Snowden’s damage to our security is miniscule compared to what Obama and his crew of America haters is doing continually.
