BART Workers Strike After Failed Contract Talks [San Francisco transit workers strike]

AN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Bay Area Rapid Transit workers walked off the job early Monday morning after last-minute negotiations failed to produce a new contract agreement. The strike ensured a nightmarish commute to start the week, leaving about 400,000 BART riders to find another way to get work.

The unions were seeking a 5 percent annual raise over the next three years.

BART spokesman Rick Rice said the transit agency had rolled out several offers over the course of negotiations, including an 8 percent salary raise over the next four years. But the unions dismissed the proposals as “surface bargaining” and contended, if implemented, would actually result in a “net pay cut” for employees who faced increased contributions for health insurance and pensions.

Let me guess....$75K/yr average salary...gold plated health plan...6 weeks vacation a year....30 sick days a year...15 holidays (including “Harney Milk Day”) a year...retirement at full pay after 15 years...and they feel abused.

Maybe ‘Papa Doc Obama’ will step in and resolve the problem?

Let them swish their way to work.

Or, they can pedal themselves to work, assuming any actually work instead of spend OPM.

With all due respect to the FReepers that live there and will be inconvenienced by this: reason number 34 to not live in SF and reason number 116 to not live in CA.

So what’s the problem? Just hire new workers.

I’d like to see the pay levels and benefit levels for these “public servants”. I’d bet they surpass the 90th percentile for the US. Screw’em.

Its not about the money, its about respect they deserve. You can respect them more by giving them a bigger check.

SF is a NICE town & NOT everyone is a Lib! This is BART’s 1st strike in 16 years, BUT do some research & see what some of the pay/benefits their Union people receive, gives a new meaning to the word GREED!!!
