USA --(Ammoland.com)- Special operations troops are often lauded for their ability to move behind enemy lines undetected, gather detailed reconnaissance, conduct daring raids and rescues, and then disappear just as quickly as theyve arrived.
At least, thats the sort of thing that makes a good Hollywood film.
One of the greatest and most important capabilities of such highly-trained troops, however, is their ability to train local forces into a formidable defensive units, and that is the premise of Mike Garand and Jack Lawsons A Failure of Civility, one of the more unique survival books on the market....
Former Navy SEAL and Enemies Foreign and Domestic author Matt Bracken said of the book:
I believe that every American prepper needs a copy of A Failure of Civility as a reference manual for survival during the most trying times ahead. Along with the Bible, I consider it the most important book that I am personally aware of for getting through the dark days that we may be about to experience.

I wonder if the experts who wrote this book are the same kind of failures in the minds of some close to them? I wonder if Kartographer is a failure with some of his family and close friends?
Mark 6:4
But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house
Happens all the time, and it has been going on for a long time.

This book gives some pretty good hints on how to organize a defense within a community.Yep, neighborhood defense for a variety of SHTF threats, be they uncivil or unconstitutional.

"Rural families know their terrain. Every dip, where the ground is soft, which way the ditches run. Things that can't be quickly assessed from an aerial image.
That may well impart an advantage to the defenders.
IF you don't know your neighborhood, rural, suburban, small town, or big city, you should."
Perfect on one of the most important points of fire and maneuver and defense in general. Well said. Lack of pride is the first and most important part of training for self-defense.
An uncluttered, analytical mind enables perceptions of more probable causes, effects and otherwise unnoticeable details in dealing with those probabilities. There are many things farmers and ranchers can do to enhance security on their places. Once such a person becomes engaged in designing and building security features, the number of possibilities will begin to seem endless.
Also commonly seen now, are the fantasies about "WROL" (SHTF-er acronym lingo for "without rule of law"). There will always be legal considerations and possibilities of consequences, too. Justice will lean in favor of locals on their home places. There's never been a truly lawless nation (see retributions after conflicts and political transitions).
And of course, there's physical fitness. How can one survive the end of the world without being in good shape? [Little ironic humor there.]

24 x 7 365 security in enough numbers to complety eliminate an attacking force is mandatory. Otherwise, it’s a trap.

"24 x 7 365 security in enough numbers to complety eliminate an attacking force is mandatory. Otherwise, its a trap."
That should be mostly electronic and independent from efficient, affordable electricity from the power company. With systems built well enough, a whole attacking cluster of criminal SHTF-ers wouldn't hit what they couldn't see or penetrate.
But the wanna-be murderous banditos would glow nicely for, say, a law-abiding lady at home with a bolt and a sight made for the light level. If she gutted one or two such end-of-the-world rats, the rest would run. That kind of reaction would give her more practice sessions, although there are other possibilities.
Now that we've had our little fun with stories that would make a character like Walter Mitty proud, where's the fuel for the banditos to run 100 miles to the country after the end of the world? And would they be allowed through the roadblocks? The traffic jams would probably stop them first.
And most importantly, all of the camping toys in the world wouldn't help criminals like that to survive for long in remote areas of the West. If gangs made it away from their cities, they would fight with one another, go down from heat stroke, freeze to death, die from gangrenous stress fractures or any number of other hazards and be consumed by animal predators.
They don't know what they're doing, and they don't know how to fix anything. They're slobs. Most of them aren't even in good physical shape. Even if they were, they're too lazy to train for proper fire and maneuver, if proper fire-and-maneuver instructions and teamwork were on the Net (which they're not, thank goodness). Back to my energy studies.

Oh...I didn’t see that you’re in a heavily populated area with beautiful, easy weather year-round, lots of trees, much water, plenty of oxygen, etc. (anywhere in TN) before commenting with all of that. But electronic, computerized security and many other personal security measures would still be helpful. Where I live, there are no people, no services, no trees, extreme visibility, Mars-like weather (except for deep spraying ice and 100-mph+ wind gusts in winter), about seven months of winter, not much water, not much oxygen and few animals except cannibalistic rodents. And no end-of-the-world TV. OK...back to looking at steam engine stuff...
