Marijuana’s march toward mainstream confounds feds

It took 50 years for American attitudes about marijuana to zigzag from the paranoia of “Reefer Madness” to the excesses of Woodstock back to the hard line of “Just Say No.”

The next 25 years took the nation from Bill Clinton, who famously “didn’t inhale,” to Barack Obama, who most emphatically did.

And now, in just a few short years, public opinion has moved so dramatically toward general acceptance that even those who champion legalization are surprised at how quickly attitudes are changing and states are moving to approve the drug—for medical use and just for fun. …

Washington policymakers seem reluctant to deal with any of it. …

We have a central government without a leader or leadership. Instilling cabinet heads and czars does not eliminate the need for a LEADER.

The government loves laws against legalization, because it allows for seizures of cash cars, property without due process, all in the name of the war on drugs.

There’s a public park in Zurich,Switzerland...a *major* park,IIRC...where shooting heroin is allowed.Of course “progressive” Rats (and “libertarians”) would applaud such a forward-thinking policy.

They will let it slide because a population of stoners is much easier to govern.

Big Pharma is not happy.

Sorry, but if there’s nothing wrong with “marrying” someone of your own gender and engaging in activity that is grossly unhealthy and destructive, then there is nothing wrong with smoking weed. You feds can’t have everything both ways.

Driving down highway 99 in Seattle is simply surreal now with all the marijuana dispensaries. Most of them are identifiable by the green cross that is often incorporated into their signage. They’re often adjacent to smoke shops, with just the barest effort put toward maintaining the flimsy pretense of having a medical purpose.

in Washington state the stupid voters just made it legal....not just decriminalized...LEGAL...

we are going to have so many young people affected...so many lives wasted...lives ended because of this...car accidents...work accidents.....

and crime?....we'll have more breakins and more illegal trade....

Why?...why introduce this?....I would have been okay with the charges being a misdemeanor...

we'll have people smoking in their cars driving around without constraint..

Btw I would be thrilled to see the war on drugs ended. Can you imagine the sudden cessation of gang violence, the change in the inner cities and at the border? Mexico would catch a break too and that might make staying home a little more appealing to them.

Next up, declare victory in the war on poverty (it wouldn’t be unrealistic to declare such, I mean have you seen the size of your average SNAP recipient??) and pull out of it too! Of course considering the munchies in the inner cities at the end of the drug war, there might be riots over that, LOL.

I don't approve of the dispenseries. I do approve of the States re-claiming their authority in the matter.
