Apparently major corps are still able to hold their research/development orgs to a "higher" standard.

Sad to say, most of my students were scientists, mathematicians and engineers at a major university, with some of the highest standards in the country.

Their excuse was every bit as deplorable as someone coming from a ghetto, trailer park or Barrio: "this isn't an English class."

No, it was a physics class. But that doesn't mean that a baccalaureate degree candidate is excused from being functionally literate in his own birth tongue.
