No; you would never know at that age (playing soccer & manhunt, going to movies or arcades). It only became obvious as we got older, when he would glance at things that would take a minute to read and act like he’d read it - in 10 seconds. He had untreated dyslexia.

I used to teach people in prison to read [I was not in prison myself.] It's shocking how many convicts can't read. [Or not.]

I knew one other adult who could not read. He was VERY good at hiding the fact.
