In Afghanistan, U.S. military scraps billions in equipment

The massive disposal effort, which U.S. military officials call unprecedented, has unfolded largely out of sight amid an ongoing debate inside the Pentagon about what to do with the heaps of equipment that won’t be returning home. Military planners have determined that more than $7 billion worth of equipment — about 20 percent of what the U.S. military has in Afghanistan — will not be shipped back, because it is no longer needed or would be too costly to send home.

That has left the Pentagon in a quandary about what to do with the items. Bequeathing a large share to the Afghan government would be challenging because of complicated rules governing equipment donations to other countries, and there is concern that Afghanistan’s fledgling forces would be unable to maintain it. Some gear may be sold or donated to allied nations, but few of them are likely to be able to retrieve it from the war zone

More than abandoned it. Lots of stuff was dumped into the ocean.

The Roosevelt regime believed that it was good for the economy to make things then destroy them. Kind of a weird “potlatch” sort of deal.

There were millions out of work and on short rations, and the Roosevelt regime thought it a good idea to buy hogs, kill them, and bury them.

"Quandary"?? BS.

FREE candy and goodies are purposely being left behind and arming certain Muzzies and Warlords. Meanwhile, The Regime cackles at the notion that the US-Taxpayer is likely subsidized arming insurgents while draining our own piggy bank.

If anyone knows, please explain why hundreds of billions in assets have and still being wasted in Afghanistan again. I mean besides also subsidizing the "military-industrial complex."

Nothing new here. We abandoned a huge amount of equipment overseas after World War 2.

It wasn't dropped into the lap of an active Death Cult though, was it?

No, not so much. Although the Syrian army was using old German Pz IVs as late as 1956. If our stuff went to any cults, it was to cargo cults out in the Pacific.

We still have cargo cults in the United States today. They are called unions. Their members attend services Friday nights at shabby old union halls outside of closed factories. They drink their beers and eat greasy foods, convinced that some day the factory will reopen and the old jobs will come back. It’s very sad, the cargo cult.

Except for not meeting in Mosques and dancing with pretty goats, they are mostly on the same side, aren't they?

It is part of weaponizing al Qaeda by Obama.

al Qaeda attacked the Pentagon and WTC on 911, and now the Pentagon does their bidding in Libya and Egypt and Syria and a few dozen other places as the DO"J" protects them with lawyers and weapons.

Yup. You were the first one to nail it.

Loose = not tight.

Lose = vanquished.

Obama is a loser, even if his pants are looser.

Sorry, I just hate whole looser thing. Yes, I know I’m an a-hole.
