BEIJING (AP) -- A tense minority region in China's far west erupted in violence Friday for the second time in three days, barely hours after the government called the earlier unrest a "terrorist attack" and raised the death toll to 35.
State media gave few details in a brief dispatch about Friday's unrest, saying it was "a violent attack" that took place on a pedestrian street in Hotan, a city in Xinjiang, a region that has seen China's minority Uighurs clash with the ethnic Han majority. No details on casualties were released.

Uighurs=muslims=murderous violence
But I thought the reason the Muzzies were all upset was because of the USA’s friendshiip with Israel...?
Now I am confused.
The Han Chinese are not indigenous to the region; they’ve been “colonizing” for years to demographically drown the moslem natives. Once in a while the natives get uppity and have to be reminded of their place.
muslims ho! (chi min)
Besides its resource richness Xinjiang is in a highly strategic location. The billboards between the airport and the center of the capital, Urumqi, are about half and half Mandarin and Russian (the Russians trade for a lot of Chinese goods there). Visited Urumqi eight years ago and at the time the hosts (Chinese) made a show of demonstrating how well the native population was being treated ("See, everybody happy here") but there was strong undercurrent of tension even then. With the Han immigrants getting the best jobs, housing, in complete control of the security apparatus, and moving toward majority status the place is likely to explode. One can expect the Chinese will take no prisoners when they crack down to try and prevent that.
Sorta like H-1Bs?
in 1949 the region was 75-80% a Uighur population
today it is 60% Han Chinese
the Han Chinese have a continuous, on going since imperial times, process of slow cultural genocide of “minorities” under the fiction of “one” China when the spoken Chinese language alone says there are many China’s in China
someday Tibet will no longer be Tibetan
With Han men getting the best jobs and housing, and with the shortage of women, expect the Hans to go after Uighur women.
If I was in charge, I'd open factories that only hired women from among the Uighurs, and let the Han man fraternize as much as they wanted. Take away the Uighur women, and the Uighur culture dies out within a couple of generations.
