As the Obama administration pushes for stronger gun laws in the United States, Canada is moving toward entirely eliminating its controversial gun registry program.
Many critics have noted that gun registries place additional burdens on honest citizens looking to own firearms, while opening them up to politically motivated targeting of the kind recently revealed in the United States when the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) admitted it had been targeting conservatives for extra scrutiny...

We can’t learn form our mistakes, because we make no mistakes to learn from, Citizen.
Now if Canada would get rid of their draconian speech codes and “Human Rights Commission” who can have people fined and even arrested for quoting a bible verse against homosexuality... It might be a country worth considering for retirement...
Should we be moving to Canada?
What the government is doing under the admitted foreign born twice unconstitutionally elected communist Kenyan, is making outlaws out of the law abiding. In essence, the government is attacking the very people they have sworn to serve and defend which is treason. But since we no longer have a Republican party but a bunch of RINO limp wristed girly men who cower into a fetal position any time the Treason party snaps its fingers, nothing is done about it. So to me it look like we could very well be heading into the CW 2 because as far as I can see, this crap isn’t going to stop. They are just going to keep attacking and attacking and attacking raising the bar every time and the question is how much are we willing to take?

Hmmm- the difference there and here though is that our left party is hell bent on tyranny, while the canadian lefties were timid about destroying their countryty- unfortunately I do not see our country’s leftists backign down once they enact the l;aw
According to Mark Steyn, this law was repealed:
2) On the other hand, the Canadian Senate voted today to join the House of Commons and repeal Section 13 the hate speech provisions of the countrys human rights law.
See “One Step Forward, Two Steps Back” - it was posted on FR yesterday. I don’t have the link handy.
Sounds like Canadian leaders are coming to trust their citizens *more* while one of *our* parties is coming to trust us...not at all.
Freepmail me, I'm in real estate.
The Federal Government is on board but the RCMP is trying to regulate arms through the back door.
Yes, this is great news for us! There are still some provincial human rights tribunals sadly, and there is still hate speech provisions in the criminal code.
Repealing the “hate speech” provisions was a giant step forward for human rights. (Real human rights that is, not “human rights” in the Orwellian sense,in which the Tribunals use the term.)
Having spent the money on a failed computer system, the need for the project vanishes, along with the money.
While Canada is a fine country populated (largely but probably not entirely) by fine people there are a couple of things to consider. One is that their Immigration/Citizenship Ministry might not approve. Not because you're deficient in any way or because they're "mean",it would be because they want younger people with skills that their nation needs.I have long story regarding my experiences with Australia, but the bottom line is that there's no way I'd qualify for any kind of permanent residency mainly because of my (rather advanced) age. They want young, healthy, productive people...which I can easily understand.
Second...CanadaCare (aka:OsamaObamaCare) is coming to this country but is well established there. In Canada one can wait...under official government guidelines...for 6 months for at least one type of heart surgery.I know this because I saw it on an official British Columbia Health Ministry website. So,if you settle there be sure to maintain insurance in the US and choose an area near Buffalo,Detroit,Minneapolis or Seattle.
Handguns barrel must be over 4 1/2 inches or so, rifles that are semi-auto still require registration and a licenses is still needed to buy any firearm or ammunition .
Add, no handgun or semi can be fired anywhere except at a govt. approved range, with special permits required to move the firearm to and from anywhere, can`t be used in self defence, must be locked up unloaded all times, warrantless searches of your home are legal, etc, etc, etc.
I'm not a Canadian so my opinion might not mean much but...under *those* circumstances it might have been reasonable for the police to take temporary custody of the firearms because of the danger of looting. If the owners were to go to the police station, show proper ID and some proof of ownership one would think they'd be returned.I can see where the use of the word "seized" is a bit curious, however.
Not in *self defense*? So what happens if someone happens to be carrying a handgun, finds himself being *genuinely* threated with *serious* harm by an assailant, and successfully defends himself with that handgun? Is he charged? If so,with what? Mind you...there's no doubt about the nature or severity of the threat in the case I put forth.
BTW...my spell check says that you misspelled "defense". ;-)
No.
