Looks like there is a slippery slope after all and gay marriage really could lead to polygamy. According to U.S. News and World Report, polyamory advocate Anita Wagner Illig said that gay marriage is setting the standard to make polygamy and polyamory legal.
We polyamorists are grateful to our [LGBT] brothers and sisters for blazing the marriage equality trail, said Illig, who is the head of polyamory advocacy group called Practical Polyamory.
Anticipating the Supreme Courts decision on same-sex marriage this week, US News reporter Steven Nelson interviewed Illig to see how polyamorists and polygamists feel about the possibility of redefining marriage. Nelson reported that Illig admitted the polyamory community has expressed little desire for legal marriage until now, but that in light of gay marriage gaining wider acceptance, more options seem possible in the future.
Illig insisted that the legalization of gay marriage would set an undeniable precedent for polyamorists seeking legal multi-partner marriage.
A favorable outcome for marriage equality is a favorable outcome for multi-partner marriage, she argued, because gay marriage would then provide precedent for other forms of non-traditional relationships.
Illig, whose husband has a girlfriend, believes that the legal acceptance for polygamy would eliminate a common challenge polyamorists face, and would be more likely to happen should the Supreme Court rule in favor of gay marriage this week.
Despite denials from left-wingers like CNNs Piers Morgan and MSNBCs Luke Russert, its getting harder and harder for liberals to ignore reality: legalizing gay marriage will lead to legalizing polygamy. Lefty newspaper Slates writer Jillian Keenan openly advocated legalizing polygamy earlier this year, and Huffington Posts Abby Huntsman admitted that legalizing gay marriage would open the door to polygamy and other things.
Not to mention, of course, MSNBCs Melissa Harris-Perry who asserted that We do want to change marriage. With gay couples and now multi-partner marriage on the horizon, one wonders whether marriage will even be recognizable by the time the left is done changing it.
Rush spent many hours of his program over the years telling us this was going to happen. What next in the scheme of perverted sex will be on the table ... ?
This will go on until until government starts losing money off it(as when people start “marrying” their children to avoid inheritance taxes). Then you’ll see Democrats screaming about “the sacred institution of marriage”.
I should be able to have as many as I can afford, a harem.
“Big Love” and “Sister Wives” weren’t that well received on cable, were they?
Slippery slope? I would frankly consider polygamy a step up. There is at least some biological sense to the arrangement.
What business does the government have telling me how many wives I can have?
I should be able to have as many as I can afford, a harem.
Do you really want multiple mother in laws or all those wives pms’ing at the same time???
Big Love and Sister Wives werent that well received on cable, were they?
Its a slow re-education process.
Didn’t see alot of gays on tv then boom every sitcom had them in it.
I’ve never seen gay marriage as a “slippery slope”, it is a complete break, it is the realization of another libertarian victory to add to the 50 year string of them.
Once we have “gay marriage” then what we are really saying is that it is all up to whatever consenting adults want, polygamy has to follow, as will all other variations.
Yet for what sounds so easy to you, has been rejected by Western civilization, always.
Personally I’m looking forward to this, getting kind of tired of my old wife and would like to liven things up with a model with 20 years less mileage on it. Just can’t afford the alimony so this solves that little problem, just move the old bag to the spare bedroom, maybe service her once a month or so just for old times sake and have a ton of fun with the new one! You just have to learn to enjoy the decline, there’s a silver lining in every dark cloud!
>> What business does the government have telling me how many wives I can have?
Then what business does the govt have forcing the citizens to support and service homosexual behavior lawfully defined as marriage?
You keep them away from one another.
Not sure why you replied to me but polygamy has horrific consequences for society; it would literally mean the end of western civilization
Exactly!
Why is government in the marriage business at all, except for the recording of the events?
Damn Straight!!!
Gay Marriage is leading the way for me to have several “Partners” and I couldn’t be happier.....
Chicka’s, I think is muh thing and they luvz me.
Bring on the “Monogamy ain’t no thing” . . . thing...
One of the drawbacks of polygamy is that it does not build the nuclear family (one man, one woman, and their children) as a political unit.
Yes, because we have a nation run by lawyers. If we legalize all sorts of "marriage," the money from divorce and probate cases is going to be ASTRONOMICAL.
This drive for new definitions of "marriage" started picking up bigtime when stats showed conclusively that heterosexual couples were living together more and more without benefit of marriage. Not a good thing for divorce lawyers.
Gay couples and polygamists literally begging to be married would provide a bonanza for the legal industry. As they say, follow the money.
