McCain slams Putin on Snowden- "he continues to stick his thumb in our eye"

Sen. John McCain weighed in on the Edward Snowden saga on Tuesday, saying that Russia's actions in the wake of the accused National Security Agency leaker's reported arrival in Moscow harkens back to the Cold War.

"It's reminiscent of the days of the Cold War, when you hear a Russian spokesman saying that [Snowden’s] not in Russia when every shred of evidence indicates that he is,” McCain said on CNN. “We've got to start dealing with Vladimir Putin in a realistic fashion for what he is. He’s an old KGB colonel apparatchik that dreams of the days of the Russian empire, and he continues to stick his thumb in our eye in a broad variety of ways. Most importantly to me, of course, and should be to the world, is their continued support of [Syrian President] Bashar al Assad and the massacre taking place in Syria."

"Putin always seems almost eager to stick a finger in the eye of the United States—whether it is Syria, Iran and now of course with Snowden," New York Sen. Charles Schumer said on CNN's "State of the Union." "Allies are supposed to treat each other in decent ways."

Yeah, he does thumb your eye, McCain... remember YOU’RE the one who pushed to arm al-Qaeda in Syria against Russia’s ally. WTF do you expect? Take your meds and have Cindy drive you back to “the home.”

Putin has always despised Obama, because he sees Obama as a traitor to his own country.

That's what I have read in books about spies and Vince Flynn's books. Americans may not know what a useless sack Obama is but Vlad Putin took the measure of the man years ago and put him on a leash and performing tricks like the organ grinders monkey. Putin has all that Obama can be blackmailed on

Compare and contrast with the obvious respect Gorbachev had for Reagan.

Weird times.
I find myself cheering for the commies in Moscow over the commies in Washington D.C.

Actually the commies in D.C. make Russia seem like the American capitalist running dogs of old...

“he continues to stick his thumb in our eye in a broad variety of ways. “

Yeh kind of like McCain does to the Republican base.

That's because you all are clowns and not respected outside of the Beltway.

” Vlad Putin took the measure of the man years ago and put him on a leash and performing tricks like the organ grinders monkey”

LOL! Well put.

” Putin has all that Obama can be blackmailed on “

And Putin has the background to be thorough.

John McCain sticks his thumb - well, thumb if I'm lucky - in my eye on a regular basis and seems to expect me to thank him for the privilege. I don't care for Vladimir Putin, but if he actually got under "Ace's" spotty skin this week, then I will give the man credit for that much.

I thought I had officially left the Republican party over McCain a few years back, but somehow the paperwork didn't seem to get the job done. I let it slide for some time, but weekend before last I went down to the courthouse and made sure the change "took." If the GOP cared enough to know why I threw close to 40 years of being a registered Republican into the toilet (and jiggled the handle this time), I'd refer them to exhibit A: John McCain.

Poke him again, Vlad.

He’s sticking his thumb in McCain’s eye, and the powers that be in the District of Corruption.

Its pretty sad when your own govt becomes so evil that you laugh along with your enemies as they stick it to your own leaders.

It has come to this: we have a young spook who betrayed his oath of secrecy and the former head of the KGB and current leader of our former Cold War foe, and it turns out they're acting more in the interest of the American people than the disgusting ruling-class tools in both Republican and Democrat parties and the lickspittle media, all of whom are circling the wagons to protect their own interests. What the hell, Johnny?

Time for heads to roll. If they get away with this they can get away with anything.

Dennis, all FReepers ought to simply ask McCain's military service contemporaries about this man's character and intelligence.

Suffice it to say that when he was captured by the NVA, a sigh of relief went out through the aviation community, especially the Navy aircraft maintenance division. (He destroyed many aircraft. Ours.)

The man was a complete incompetent, a very well known "wild man" drunkard and whore-hound, and probably the worst officer of his time in any branch. His lack of piloting skill was legendary. He even got lost over the Chesapeake. His breaches of discipline made him famous even in the Air Force and Army, which takes a bit of doing by a Naval pilot. His admiral-relatives pushed him through Annapolis despite his antics. They even cashiered the flight instructor team who wanted to wash him out of Flight School. With his particular family clout, he led a charmed life in the service ... that is they allowed him to stay.

And now,old and even more foolish, with a bored beer baroness 2d wife, he is now a world class jerk. Witness his support of the Christian-massacring "rebels" in Syria. Who TF votes for this superannuated anus?

O Hell! I did when he ran against The Mombasa MF, despite a campaign that was laughably inept ... as is everything else he ever did.

No one likes a traitor. Jumping Jeffords went to the Rat party and for his backstabbing the GOP he was voted out of office less than 2 years later.

I stand with the ‘real’ president and the real man in this fight, Vladimir Putin.

Yes, I hate Obama and most of our so called leaders that damn much.

Its pretty sad when your own govt becomes so evil that you laugh along with your enemies as they stick it to your own leaders.

Its sad when you have far, far more to fear from your own leaders than you do from your enemies abroad.

The progressives have already done immeasurably more damage to my nation and culture than the Russians could ever hope to do.

What is the most effective way to weaken the United States? Access secret information that has a transient life and would be updated/changed within a short period of time anyway as to render it ineffective?

Or, to destroy its very self image as a constitutional republic, to sow doubt & despair into the hearts of every patriot, and to signal the world that the USA is a prison state, one that anyone interested in self determination would be well to avoid, or escape?

Option 1 merely entails detaining Snowden and accessing his records. Option 2 is even more straightforward: put Snowden on a plane straight to DC.

As long as Putin allows Snowden refuge, he's contributing to a potentially stronger America over the long-term. Why would he be interested in that? Handing Snowden over to DC would be like the Germans sending Lenin to Russia. It would destroy the will of America as the last vestiges of civil rights were quickly eliminated.
