I think this is probably true. Certainly a lot of people are sloppy with facebook, and allow too much information to slip out -- but that is an implementation error. I believe the thinking is: "Facebook has privacy settings. I may not use them well. I may not understand them. But, theoretically, I have control over what other people know about me. I can "friend" who I want, and keep out the people I don't like."

And when the truth dawns that there are people you just can't keep out no matter how hard you try, I think these people feel real betrayal. "Hey, that breaks the rules! It's not supposed to be that way! I'm supposed to have control over my stuff!"

That, coupled with a poor economy for young people with entry-level job skills ought to make young folks ripe for the Conservative message. If only we had a political party that wanted to sell such a message. Sigh.
