National Security Agency director Keith Alexander said on Sunday that whistleblower Edward Snowden betrayed the trust of Americans and defended the broad surveillance programs as necessary to prevent another terrorist attack.
As Snowden evaded an attempt on Sunday by Washington to have him arrested in Hong Kong, General Alexander told ABC's This Week: "This is an individual who is not acting, in my opinion, with noble intent ... What Snowden has revealed has caused irreversible and significant damage to our country and to our allies."
Alexander said the NSA surveillance programs Snowden had disclosed to the Guardian were tightly overseen and disputed statements from members of the Senate intelligence committee that they had not played a unique role in preventing terrorist attacks.

The types you described are not conservative, they are Trotskyites, Statist and not worthy of freedom.
“I’ll take my chances with the terrorists”
yup, I’m with you. The terrorist boogieman has nothing on Big Brother whose tentacles go from DC into every tiny little enclave in our Country. Rural America; its everywhere and nowhere is safe.
Has your local or County Law Enforcement taken any govt money via federal programs? Guess what little town, you’ve been compromised by the enemy.
The irony is that far too many of FreeRepublic are up in arms over our enemy getting secrets. Who is more dangerous to me and my family this very moment - China, Russia or my own Govt and it’s propaganda machine the MSM?
ANY damage that has been caused was caused by NSA, Obama, his democrats, all others that have violated our Constitution and their oaths.
No doubt, but I still say what Snowden did was very foolish. First off it isn’t going to change anything, and second he basically destroyed his life. He would have been a lot more effective and more of a “hero” if he collected evidence pointing all the way to the top: For example our twice unconstitutionally elected admitted foreign born POTUS giving the order to harass conservatives groups such as the Tea party.
They want to keep the focus on Snowden and avoid what he revealed.
I do not disagree. But FR is full of them. Just read ANY thread on this issue and you’ll see many.
National Security Agency director Keith Alexander wants to keep his cushy, lazy ass job.
That is it in a nutshell.
No, they expect the masses to roar in approval when an American non-muslim is executed by Dear Leader without any due process using a drone, sniper, or SPECOPS team.
HF
Keith Alexander , FU! , YOU have caused irreversible damage with your wanton disregard for the constitution.
They couldnt prevent Boston....they are more concerned with going after Tea Partiers than Muslim terrorists.
***************************************************
Tea Partiers use their real names , don’t encrypt communications and don’t use “burn” phones ,,, they’re the easy target ... The muslim terrorists are the protected class ... stopping terrorisn is EASY if we just stop protecting the perps ... hell the White Hut with bath-house Barry won’t even allow the bad guys to be named...
for the NSA : detonator RDX detonator RDX pressure cooker
However, somebody just tied Clapper together with Snowden in a koinkydink ~ they both worked for the same company!
Regarding any of their public statements these guys are not authorized to declassify anything, and just about everything about NSA is classified. That means if they say anything of substance they are either in violation of the classification rules or they are lying.
Since we have no independent way of knowing we have to assume they lie!
NSA is just another Federal jobs program
You could spy and collect on the people (terrorist and foreign enemies) that you really need to for one tenth the billions being spent. But Senators are idiots and will fund NSA based on the hi tech mumbo jumbo run by them for appropriations. But in order to build a bureaucratic empire and funnel billions to their contractor buddies (for kickbacks) NSA has to get bigger and bigger and expand its mission to collect information on everyone living in the USA
Snowden is not the hero you think he is due to his actions and his choices. That charge would have come from any administration, not just 0’s.
Going through hostile territory does not help Snowden’s case. The kind of damage that he caused is not something attributable to any particular administration. He has made it that much easier for the next attack on the US to happen by his actions and his travels through hostile countries.
He can’t hide forever and he will be caught by the United States. If there are people helping him, they will end up with the same fate as Snowden’s.
...”If Trailblazer was a massive corporate boondoggle, ThinThread was the embodiment of the skunk team approach that had made the NSA the crown jewel of US intelligence. It cost less than $3 million, was small enough to be loaded onto a laptop, and included anonymization software that protected the privacy rights of US persons guaranteed in the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
And while Trailblazer employed hundreds of contractors, ThinThread was the work of less than a dozen NSA employees and a handful of contractors.”

This NSA probem didn’t happen overnight. It began when Gen Michael Hayden chose outside contractors and their spy project the TrailBlazer over the inside NSA project ThinThread. TrailBlazer cost billions and invaded our privacy. ThinThread was a project done by scientists inside the NSA, cost 3 million and didn’t invade our privacy. This is the time when the outside contractors not only entered the NSA zone but also started hiring outside people willy nilly - how many did they hire that were/are spies? The original inside NSA whistleblowers (one of which was involved in creating ThinThread), who were persecuted for years, were right.
He’s right, of course. Because of Snowden’s actions, 300,000,000 terrorists now know about the NSA’s program.
