EL MONTE, Calif. (KTLA) — Police were investigating the fatal officer-involved shooting of a two-year-old German shepherd inside the fenced-in yard of a family in El Monte.

Officers came to the home on Maxson Road on Wednesday to follow-up on a report of a runaway teenager.

The encounter with the dog, named Kiki, was recorded by a home security camera.

It showed two police officers arriving at the home of Cathy Luu and her husband Chi Nguyen around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the officers shook the gate and otherwise took care to check if there were dogs present in the yard before opening the gate and entering, according to a report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

How dumb can you possibly be?

Can you read?

There was no emergency, the family called the cops told them to call first prior to coming, so they could secure the dogs and give them a photo of the runaway...

The runaway has been in contact with the family. He is staying with a friend.

These cops blew it bad.

That doesn't matter.A missing child is a matter of public safety and security...it's not just about the family.Just as I,for example, wouldn't care less if the mother of a murder victim pleaded with the judge not to execute the killer I don't care how unconcerned the family may or may not be about a missing child. It's in the public interest...not just the child's interest...that he be found ASAP.

So in your world, the cops could have broken down the door, handcuffed everybody, and trashed the house and it would have been fine and dandy.

You need a new username...AND a new tagline.

Hey,I'm done.

Me: potentially urgent matter.Cops meet a large agitated dog that was charging them milliseconds before being shot.

Others: fascist cops shooting goldfish, hamsters and parakeets nationwide....just for chuckles.

The family contacted the El Monte Police Department after their 14-year-old son ran away from home. Officers came to the house to get a picture of the boy — but the family told them to call ahead of time so they could put away their two dogs. They say police never contacted them and ignored a “beware of dog” on the front gate.

No,but you're close. The cops should have shot everyone in the house.Twice.In the back of the head.As well as every other living being on the property.

Sorry, coming out to get a pic of some stupid teen runaway is not urgent or an emergency...

The cops acted in an extreme reckless manner by:

#1. Not calling before they came out as requested, so the family could secure the dogs.

#2.The cops completely ignored multiple DOG WARNING SIGNS on the gate and walked right in.

#3. After entering the gate, these arrogant cops left their gate wide open.

#4. Opening up with a firearm in their yard, endangered everyone within about 100 yards or so in this neighborhood.

#5. There was no emergency.

dragnet2: "Hello,is this the NYPD? This is dragnet2 from California. My 15 year old son,Timmy dragnet 2,has run away and called us from the Bronx.I think he could be in serious trouble".

NYPD: "OK,send us a photo of your stupid teen runaway and we'll send someone out in a week or two".But there are many aggressive dogs there so it might take a while to cover much territory".

This comment probably won't make me very popular, but it was a dog, not a human. I know, I know. They were the owners' "fur-babies" or "members of the family". Ugh. Give me a break!

Seriously, you can't reason with an animal. They don't understand, "Freeze! Police!"

Much is left unknown about this situation. These dogs appear to be untrained. A dog trained to protect their owners can be called off. Why would the owners ask the police to call ahead if the the dogs were A) Trained, and B) Not a threat to strangers entering their yard unannounced?

Because the owners did call the police to ask them to call ahead of their visit so "they could put the dogs away" means the dogs were dangerous, out of control and a threat.

So a report about a missing teenager elicits nothing more than a yawn from you?

Are you really this freaking ignorant or you just hate losing an argument?

The family calls the cops about a missing teenager and that allows the cops to stupidly ignore the BEWARE OF DOG signs and just come into their yard and then shoot the dog when the dog goes what dogs do: Defend their territory.

I know. It really would have taken too much common sense for the cops to have waited, oh, 30 seconds while one of them calls the homeowner to put the dogs away before entering the yard.

That video suggests to me that the shooting could have been justified. It doesn’t prove it because you can’t be sure what happened off camera. That stuff about the signs is BS,assuming that the cops had legitimate business at that home...which sounds as if was the case (missing person). If I was on a jury and that video was shown I would conclude that it was at least as likely as not that the shooting was legit,therefore...”not guilty”...”not responsible”.

After watching the clip I read your post and thought that you must be a jack-boot licker or just sarcastic. Then I read your tagline and I knew at that point you were being sarcastic so I went back and read it again.

It was at that point I fell out of my chair! CIVIL?!? really?

There's always gotta be "that guy" on every thread. WTF is wrong with you - and people like you?

I hardly ever post here any longer, but wanted log-in just to welcome you to my a**hole list.

I agree with you. Gay State Conservative is, as always, one huge pain in the butt. But he seems to have outdone himself on this thread. Damn, what a jerk!

The family even requested they call first when they came to the house, so they could secure the dogs...It would have taken then 20 seconds to call.

They never called, and the cops just showed up... The family had multiple DOG WARNING SIGNS on the gate and fence and they just walked right though it, ignoring the warning signs.

Then shot the dog to death right inside it's own fenced yard.

The comments made my Gay Conservative here are disjointed, convoluted and over the top. The only argument he had left was to pretend this was some type of urgent life or death emergency, when in fact it should have been a simple routine contact with the homeowner to obtain info.

A missing child is a matter of public safety and security.

And it does not matter who or what has to get shot. I am sure discharging guns around their house made that family MUCH safer.
