Rand Paul: I'm a 'No' on Gang of Eight Bill
Rand Paul announced on Sunday that he will vote against the Gang of Eights immigration bill because it does not sufficiently secure the Southern border.
Im like most conservatives in the country in that I think reform should be dependent on border security first, Paul said, noting that he introduced a bill that was voted down that would have given Congress that power to vote on whether the border is in fact secure. To me what really tells me that theyre serious would be letting Congress vote on whether the border is secure. If the people in the country want to be assured that we will not get another ten million people to come here illegally over the next decade, they have to believe that they get a vote through their Congress. If this is a done deal once the bill is over
I dont think well really get a truly secure border.
The Senate this week will vote on both the Corker-Hoeven amendment, a last-minute attempt by Republicans to strengthen the border-security measures in the Gang of Eights bill, and the Gangs bill itself.
Paul, an advocate of immigration reform, went on to say that the bill will undoubtedly pass the Senate, but that its dead on arrival in the Republican-controlled House.
2016 must be on his mind. He was sending out feelers the last couple weeks that made me think he was going to support this bill.
Looks like in this instance the House woke up.
I don’t know if this all just Kabuki theater. They have the votes to pass it, so some Senators are allowed to vote against it to appease their constituents. Maybe, Rand Paul is voting against this bill on principle and the aforementioned political calculus was never taken into consideration. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I am growing cynical about things.
Good
Good news. Rand is back in our zone.
Excellent!
I’m glad to hear SOMEONE will vote against it. But Jeff Sessions has warned us what will happen when it reaches the House: a more acceptable bill will be passed, and then it will go into conference with the Senate, where it will be gutted and a version acceptable to the Democrats will be written. Border security sometime in the nonspecific future, amnesty loopholes big enough to drive a truck through, 30 million new citizens who will drain our economy and vote Democrat.
Paul has always been border security first and no new path to citizenship. Liars have misstated his position on illegal immigration. Go to his web site and read his position for your self, it has not changed since first put up there months and months ago.
He never left our side.
Rand, it is not the border but the huge increase in immigration and the doubling of the guest worker program that should dictate all Reps be against the bill. It is about JOBS AND THE AMERICAN WORKER.
Ted Kennedy’s 1964 immigration reform act was a travesty.
Immigration laws do need reform but not the way the dems are writing it.
Rand Paul has been said to favor a pathway to citizenship which requires legalization. His bill to secure the border would have never been enforced by this administration. His playing politics with legalization would lead to 10 million new democrat voters in short order. They would register to vote without proving citizenship. Illegal immigrants will cheat on voting just as they cheated by coming across the border illegally.
Rand doesn’t seem to understand that legalization gives the democrats permanent power for generations.
There should be no legalization until there are mass deportations and the border is secure. Then we’ll talk.
Ok, great! If he follows through.
It’s also about TAXES, AND AMERICAN WELFARE!
So, tomorrow, he will support it again? Will he be against it on Wednesday?
I do not trust Randmesty
He already voted in favor to bring Rubio-Obama Amnesty to the floor...so he is still Amnesty Liberal.
He played this card. Now they will not let him too close to gain information. They will have their knives out for him.
good
“30 million new citizens who will drain our economy and vote Democrat.”
Maybe in 20 years...
Accuracy in Media reports that the immigration reform bill includes two slush funds amounting to $150,000,000 that may be supplemented with additional taxpayer dollars for years to come. These funds would go to public or private, non-profit organizations such as La Raza, Casa de Maryland, and the American Immigration lawyers Association!
These and other organizations are ethno-centric-—devoted to helping illegal immigrants apply for legal status.
The reform bill not only provides amnesty for illegal immigrants, but for their employers. As the Center for Immigration Studies points out, Illegal aliens will be rewarded for breaking laws for which American citizens are routinely punished such as the use of fraudulent Social Security cards, while imposing a $1,000 penalty that in many cases would be waived. Then they would be issued a new Social Security number without any past bad credit or arrest records.
