Leticia Perez, Andy Vidak vie for Valley's 16th state Senate seat (CA special election)
The Fresno Bee ^ | June 20, 2013

For three days after the May 23 special election to fill a vacant Valley-based state Senate seat, giddy Republicans were calling Hanford cherry farmer Andy Vidak "senator-elect."

Then came news that an Election Day ballot surge by his rival, Kern County Supervisor Leticia Perez, had forced a runoff, and her Democratic Party supporters dubbed her the "comeback kid."

Now, Perez and Vidak — the top two finishers in the five-person primary — will square off in a one-on-one midsummer showdown for the 16th District state Senate seat, which became vacant when Bakersfield Democrat Michael Rubio resigned in February to take a job with Chevron Corp.

The runoff election is July 23, during summer's dog days, but voters can begin casting mail ballots Monday, a fact not lost on either of the campaigns.

With that in mind, 16th District voters can likely expect more of the same campaigning from Vidak and Perez that took place ahead of last month's special election primary.

Andy Vidak nearly won election to Congress in 2010. Michael Rubio was being groomed to run against David Valdadao, but resigned to become a lobbyist.

The primary election initially went Vidak’s way.............but late absentee and provisional ballots went strongly for Perez and few came in for Vidak’

The Democrat way........see how many you need to win and then make it up in the final count. There are far too many ways to cheat with ‘a month of voting’, ‘motor-voter registration’, ‘provisional ballots and absentee ballots counted by Democrats’ and the ever popular ‘I found another ballot box in my trunk’. We will never win elections if our elections have no integrity.

I’d say Vidak did win in 2010. One of two CA House races the Democrats stole.

Did this Rubio character support amnesty, because that is one hell of a coincidence.

Perez will win this because the Democrat cheat machine cannot yet be stopped.

ANd I say he won this election outright and there shouldn’t be a runoff.

Goddamn bastards, “comeback kid”, makes me sick.

This Rubio is a Cali Democrat, so yes.

I don’t think it’s an uncommon name.

“Rubio” means “blond” (note the spelling; ithe word refers to males with blond hair) in Spanish. It is not an uncommon Spanish surname.
